Any hints/suggestions for the Heavy Bag Push training?

I hit it and get it moving but when it gets out of reach and I try to inch closer, it sucks me in right next to it, which starts the bag swinging out of control.

Any tips on how to move closer without getting sucked in?

I feel your fustration. What I try to do is throw hooks and uppercuts. Get a rythum going, left, right, left, right. Just keep an eye on the red strip cause it will change suddenly and you will hit the bag in the wrong spot and cause it to swing. Like you said try and stay close also.

Try to stay close? I'm trying to stay away. Every time I get close, it starts swinging.

I can get championship on this one almost every time. If not I get very, very close.

        Here's what I do.

Press right the entire time on the left analog stick (always moving towards the bag).
While doing that I ONLY throw hooks left and right in continuous succession. You definitely need to keep an eye on the red ring. I usually miss it one time when it changes but that's all. If you miss it 2-3 times in a row you are screwed.

Make sure your punches are very deliberate. Probably the most important thing is to not get ahead of yourself. You can throw more punches on the controller than the game can recognize and it has to catch up. Keep pace with the game this keeps you from missing the red rings. In other words let the game keep up with your thumb. This is the best advice I can give, it has worked for me very well.

Yeah, do not throw more punches than you can control, the key here is to change head/body at the drop of a dime and if you have 3 punches lined up after the target area moves your screwed. I just jab - cross jab - cross the whole while. Usually get pretty good results. I just inch closer to it, but I do not get too close, I keep distance.

I just can't do it. My punching with the stick just isn't precise enough. I through uppercuts instead of hooks and so on. The bag swings and ends up back at the starting line. I've tried distance I've tried close, I just can't do it. This sucks, because it pretty much ruins legacy.

It would also help if the target area didn't change in MIDDLE OF PUNCH ANIMATION.

Training is terrible. Because of it I've had to auto train, and I'm fighting dudes in the low 90's while I'm just scratching 80.

Besides Madden for past-gen, I havent played any sport game where the mini drills or w/e you want to call them are any good

The only drill I can get champion on is sparring.

I've gotten champion on stay on your feet, depending on the boxer. I played it as Calzaghe and got RJJ, he knocked me down 10 times! Then I tried again and got Adamek and he didn't knock me down once.

I'm still trying on the heavy bag combos. I haven't gotten better than prospect yet.

I've gotten contender on the heavy bag push finally, but it is hard.

I've gotten champion on the double end bag.

And I haven't tried much of the maize bag yet.

So, anybody care to explain to me how the heavy bag push would be different for Pernell Whitaker than it is for Kelly Pavlik?

As Pavlik, I can get Contender scores pretty consistently. As Whitaker, I can't get more than 1500 or so points (bum).

And is there any way AT ALL to avoid the suction effect? If I even tap left, I get sucked into the bag. And once I let off of the left stick, I continue to move forward, I can't even back up - it's like I'm magnetically stuck to the bag.

To get 10,000 plus max out power and speed on the sliders. As far as suction, it may be inherent in the game/mini-game.

It only seems to happen with certain fighters.

For instance, it happens with Pernell Whitaker every time. But not with Nate Campbell. I'm wondering if it has to do with a boxer's stance.

Anyway, I've got a system worked out that gets me Contender pretty much every time (save for with certain fighters like Whitaker above), so it's not too bad. I can actually get at least Contender on all of the training now.
