    Belts.

I'm not very knowledgeable about pro boxing (as far as fighters, championships, etc.) but I do know that there are different belts, both in real life and in the game. However, the game doesn't tell the user what the difference, at least not where I have seen. I'm wondering if someone can explain the difference between the three championship belts in the game. I'm specifically speaking about the heavyweight division. There are three champions, each with a belt.

Boxing is not like the other pro sports that all fall under one governing body. Like the Lakers, Bulls, Mavs and so on all fall under the same "parent" if you will. That being the NBA in their case.

Boxing has several governing bodies that all have their own rules and aknowledge their own champions. I'm not sure exactly how many there are now. But some of the ones I know right off are:

    WBA (World Boxing Association)
    WBC (World Boxing Commission)
    WBO (World Boxing Organization)
    IBF (International Boxing Federation)

Thats why guys like Klitschko are always talking about becoming the "undisputed" World Champion. They wanna hold all the belts at the same time.

      Re: Belts.

I know you can win them all and unify the titles but once this is done how do title defenses work? Do you have to put all of your titles on the line for every fight once you unify the title or can you decide which one you put on the line? It just seems like when you unify the title that would be it. If you are defeated then someone else has them all, and then someone else, and then someone else.

Not sure how this works in legacy mode. I play in Play Now personally.

The way they split is that a challenger may only be high enough in the rankings for only one or two of the titles.

Say fighter A holds the WBO, WBA and WBC titles and fighter B challenges him, but is ranked #2 WBO, #4 WBA and #22 WBC. I think the way it works is that the WBO and WBA titles would be up for grabs whereas the WBC title would not.

          Just a guess.
