Re: The one thing I will miss about using TPC

Agreed that stamina and footwork are the bigger issues, but I think it's flawed logic to say that because spamming happens with the stick, that button spamming can't be a problem.

First, it could be easier to spam using buttons than with the stick. This seems likely given that many of the complaints against using TCP is that it's too hard to throw accurate punches quicker. If this is the case, then the argument should be that if we already have spamming without buttons, then what do we have with them.

Second, it could be easier to spam certain punches with the buttons. Spamming with the stick happens, but certain punches are more difficult to do than others. Spamming a straight is much easier than spamming an uppercut when you use the stick. Not so with the buttons.

Third, the stick offers options for better evolution in the genre. If the stick is the standard, then maybe in the next iteration, they can incorporate things like the better you do the motion, the better the punch. They can improve the accuracy of the system, overhaul the detection, add punches. If buttons stay the standard, there is less incentive for them to make these innovations.

I'm not against the button DLC, I'm just concerned about balancing it for online, or allowing it for ranked matches. We haven't seen it yet so who knows how it will be implemented, but I wanted counter some of these arguments for allowing it online that I just don't agree with.

How about this.. TPC users room only.. Like FNR3. So now it does not affect you. Happy? Everybody wins.

          I was happy before.

I don't play online, so it doesn't affect me at all. Like a couple of other people mentioned, I might change to buttons just to cut down on the wear and tear on my controller, but other than that, I don't care about TPC or buttons.

The game is great, bottom line. It's too bad that fact is being overshadowed by the constant bickering by BOTH SIDES...

Sounds good to me, so long as there is a ranked option. Otherwise it's too hard to get a game.

I wouldn't be opposed to having separate belts and stuff for each. Then we could have undisputed bouts between the two! let's turn this into a good thing

              That's a pretty good idea.

Buttons are lame and out dated.

Nobody listens to people like you anymore. Buttons vs TPC = fail. You're fired.. Clean out your belongings and gtfo.

I guess the difference is that I'm coming from the perspective that there's nothing wrong with spamming. Or maybe I don't understand what you all mean by it. But if I understand correctly, the only thing that should stop me from stringing punches to gether at will is stamina & defense... and getting hit back.

And I also think the speed of the animations should be responsible. Regardless how fast someone spams a button, the fighter can only throw the punches but so fast. If a button masher has an advantage over a stick masher, the animations are happening too fast. That's not the fault of the gamer. That's the fault of the developer.

That's the thing. No punch should be difficult to throw. An uppercut may require more energy, but it's no more difficult to thrown than a jab.

                    Agreed.

Honestly, I could care less about buttons. I don't use them. I like the sticks. I just want the sticks to be easier to use. I should be able to reel off an uppercut just as easy in the game as in real life, if not easier.

If hooks & uppercuts only required flicks of the stick instead of swoops & swirls, they'd be perfectly balanced with the buttons. I doubt so many people would even be asking for buttons if the sticks were easier to use.

Re: The one thing I will miss about using TPC

Bezo, you make a lot of good points. I see what you're saying now about not really making spamming inherently harder, just punishing it from a gameplay perspective. It is certainly possible to achieve a great, balanced boxing sim using button controls.

That said, the thing I like about the stick is that it offers a nice way to slow the player down to realistic levels without feeling like you're losing control. It's a personal preference thing, but I'd rather have an input that takes me longer to dial in, but works when I hit it rather than an input that takes me a very short time, but will have a delay/long animation built into the game to reflect proper balancing. It's tricky to get the feel right, and comes down to what you prefer. I know some don't think the sticks are accurate enough, so the feel doesn't work for them and I get that. That just hasn't been my experience (I find that if you exaggerate the movements so that the you start hooks, straights and jabs near the very top of the controller and body hooks and uppercuts near the bottom, it works very well).

Bottom line is I'm happy that the button guys are getting this option. I just don't want to see online become unbalanced because EA did this via DLC and didn't take the time to add the animations ect. that you described and ensure that it doesn't give a competitive advantage. Not only that, but balancing two different control schemes to be completely even/equal sounds like an extremely difficult task. If it's restricted to unranked, I will be a happy guy. If it is allowed in ranked and there's no way to separate it from TPC ranked, then I'm nervous.
