Tips on non-robo punching vs. the CPU

I'm new to the sweet science, but so far I'm loving the game, trying to master the intricacies of inside and outside boxing styles (anywhere where I can figure out who uses which?).

I play on championship, and win about 30-40% of my bouts. My only real problem right now is that I continually out-punch the CPU by a very large margin. It's not uncommon for me to throw 33% more punches than my opponent, especially when I'm an outside style guy trying to ward off an encroaching threat with jabs and straights.

How can I improve my game so that I'm throwing fewer, but more meaningful punches?

What are the AI sliders you are using?

Turn their input up more and stop jabbing into so many blocks. Only jab or start a combo when his hands start to come down from the block. You gotta anticipate.. boxing is all about timing.

Thanks, that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. This isn't a slider question, it's a gameplay question, I want to get better, not adjust the CPU ability.

I tried doing this and also taking a few punches and the results have been good. I used to dominate the early rounds, then get KOed or close to it in the later ones from fatigue. Now, I stand in there and take more shots, which is improving my defending and allowing for more powerful punches. I'm winning a lot more by KO now as a result.

          Keep the tips coming.

Remember you block meter can run down. Occasionally back away and allow your stamina and blocking to recharge. If you are in a legacy, a good way to practice defense is to go to play now on GOAT, turn up the speed, toughness, CPU AI (OFF & DEF) up to ten and turn the power and damage all the way down. Turn the output up or down according to the punch frequency you desire. I do this to practice before going online and it has helped. With the power and damage down you don't have to worry as much about a KO or a ref stoppage and you can only focus on strategy. In fight now you can tune the power up as you begin to feel better about your defense.

Practicing this way has helped me win four out of my last five online fights.
