heavy bag combo training problem (down+right not registering correctly)

i have practiced the heavy bag combo minigame over and over to the point that i can land most combos quickly and consistently, with the exception of anything involving a right uppercut to the body

the game simply WILL NOT register the right stick down and to the right 75% of the time--even when i take the time to look down at the stick make the movement very slow and deliberate

this is incredibly frustrating as i love the game but this has RUINED it for me as it's not fun at all having my legacy mode progression held up by such a stupid problem

i've seen this mentioned by others here but has anyone figured out what causes this or how to get around it?

Because the stick Su.... metimes is a little bit inaccurate.

Buttons are coming though. This will solve your dilemma my friend. *ducks from Stick users throwing a barrage of rocks at my face*

The probem for me was that I rested my thumb on the right stick between punches, and I found my weakness was when I moved the stick up-right for a jab or low-right for body uppercut. My timing was a little off and the stick didn't register as centered and thus the punch was off. At least that's my theory.

My solution was to simply let go of the right stick after initiating the punch, when my guy punches the bag I initiate the next punch. I get at least contender with my slow legacy guy and can get champion with the good fighters.

It's not fool-proof, and I still mess it up from time to time, but not as often as in the beginning.
It isn't how good you are. It's chaos and luck and anyone who thinks differently is a fool.

I believe Parker said to over emphasize and it usually helps. I usually turn the speed up to ten and the difficulty to amateur as well to make sure I can get as many punches in. Difficulty does matter in training games.

          LOL Funny.
I'm a stick user but you're right the buttons will help with this.

Left jab is up and to the left - make it more up then left.

Right cross is up and to the right - make it more up than right.

Right hook is to the right and around, upwards - make slightly up and to the side befor going up and around. Same with the left hook.

Body uppercut is down and to the right / left - make it more down than right / left (this places the needed emphasis on exactly which punch you are throwing so that you get exactly what you are looking for.)

Its a little less exact that it should be - but with the above adjustments, I pull off champion almost everytime on the heavy bag and no longer throw the wrong shots by accident.

            Just trying to help...

I have no problem getting the punches I want, you just have to learn to manipulate the stick the way the game wants, not the way you think it should be.

I agree. I was having problems at times with the body hooks, until I realized that I hold the controller ever so slightly crooked. Which, caused me to throw body jabs instead.

When you try to throw a right uppercut to the body, are you throwing a hook instead?

I believe Wesman posted this before (or maybe it was Vast?) but you have to make sure you're pushing DOWN first and right second. In other words, instead of pushing the stick at a 45-degree angle, halfway between 3-oclock and 6-oclock, like you think it should be, push it down and to the right at about 5-oclock (60 degrees or so).
