Open Sparring
The easiest way to get a Champion rating is to move the dif. to Amateur, then move the power and speed sliders to ten. High power settings allow for more knockdowns, which are a big points boost, and a high speed setting allows you to throw more punches per training session and allows you to score more points in the time allotted. Another thing that could help is to turn down the CPU offensive and defensive AI and the punch output to zero. These are the absolute easiest settings and if they are too easy feel fee to do what you want, as it is your game. On the settings above you can simply walk in and constantly throw punches racking up knockdowns. I don't use the above settings anymore, but when I first played the game it really helped. I wasn't paying attention one day (listening to my wife while playing) and at the end of the session I had racked up over 150,000 points. After that I upped my settings.
Stay on your feet
Same as above, but drop speed to zero. Block, looking for counter opportunities and press when you stun them. You can get several KO's like that.
Combo Drill
Set the speed to ten and the difficulty to amateur. I still have a hard time with there, usually getting prospect/contender at best with an occasional champion rating. The imprecise nature of the stick is tricky at times. With speed high you get to throw more punches.
Heavy bag push
Amateur difficulty keeps the red line in one spot longer. Power moves the bag more and speed allows you to throw more punches. Try not to get more than one punch ahead so that when the line moves the bag doesn't fall back too far.
Double end bag
Amateur difficulty and speed to ten. You can get more punches in and you move slightly faster around the bag. Be sure you don't move into the bag or it will slow you down. With high speed you can get two or three body uppercuts into the bag before the zone changes. If you see a 2X bonus, throw punches until it moves. I usually get a high contender or champion rating by throwing two body uppercuts and moving on towards the other side of the bag to catch the next zone early.
Maize bag
Amateur difficulty and speed at ten. Higher speed allows you to move faster. I usually count in my head and after the pass on one I punch.
Defensive practice
This isn't a drill, but just advice. Do this in Fight Now mode.
This is how I learned to counter and comes in handy for me before playing online. I create a boxer in my preferred class and max out hand and foot speed and power in both hands. He is my training partner, if you will. I set the difficulty to G.O.A.T. and make the power and referee sliders zero. I make everything else ten. I learned to block this way and on G.O.A.T., especially with ten on the AI sliders, the CPU is a master as body-head-body-head combos, which is what you see online.
Once I learned to block I started learning to time the punches and counter, which is really, really important when fighting online. After that I raised the power up to ten and toughness to zero juat to turn up the pressure and feel that at any time one punch could end the fight for them or me. It has really helped me to be careful with the CPU fighters, especially in the latter stages of Legacy Mode.
I hope all this helps. Enjoy the game!
