Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
I've just about had it with taking punches to the body over and over and over against the CPU. His punches track to the nearest unblocked area of my gut and I'm taking anywhere from 65-80% connect rates to the body and 65% overall, even on Pro difficulty. I'm just about ready to give up on this game, I can't get CPU connect rates under 50% for anything.Recovering slider addict...Fight Night Round 4 caused me to relapse...Tags: None -

I was still learning then and I am much better now, but the easiest way to learn is to go into fight now and play on goat with speed, toughness, punch output and the CPU AI sliders all set to 10 with the rest of them at zero. I fight against Ali and Jones Jr, just blocking and dodging. When you feel comfortable start mixing in some boxing and countering. With the power slider low and toughness high you don't have to worry about KO's, just stamina. That's how I learned, and it's come in very handy playing online in quick matches. However in World Championship mode it's no help as that mode is completely unrealistic. When I get my 360 back (RROD) I refuse to play World Champ unless it plays more like quick ranked and unranked.
Back on topic, my last fight on GOAT with my sliders I kept Tyson at 38% while I connected 40%, so I know my 'defense drill' has helped me. -
Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
In that last last video, you ate 3 clean punches in a combo at the end. On Champion or GOAT difficulty, with you throwing punches, one of those would have been a haymaker counter. That's how I block, and it doesn't work. Sorry.Recovering slider addict...Fight Night Round 4 caused me to relapse...Comment

Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
I agree, I was hit several times. It wasn't long afterwards I adopted the above mentioned training strategy. I incorporated some head and body movement, not a lot, and it involves blocking one area initially and adapting and reacting to what they do. If I use a shorter fighter I use more head movement than I would a taller one. I usually lean to the side and back, jab side a little more exposed, forcing the fighter to reach a little farther. I fight mostly as a lefty, so in that stance a left to my head is near impossible, forcing my opponent to throw a punch into my guard or a right, which I am waiting on.
With a taller fighter I make sure the shorter guy doesn't get inside and keep him at bay with jabs and straights. If he does get inside and I can't get away (ropes, etc.) I push or guard my gut as head movement is limited depending on where I am at in the ring. I also utilize circling the jab side of the opponent with a taller fighter, keeping my hands up as my body is typically out of reach for them.
I am no guru, and none of these work against body spammers (except maybe circling the non-power side), but the vids above were just a beginning. I have progressed to GOAT with AI sliders maxed out. I hope this helps!Comment

Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
I'd post more vids, but I don't have my 360 (see sig). I will post some vids when I get it back. I have held the CPU on GOAT to below 50% quite a bit, holding Tyson to 38% as a low. That was on CPU AI being ten on offense and defense. I will at times take a shot to give one, but not often. I understand what you mean Bezo, there are a lot of talkers.Comment

Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
I do not call myself very good at the defensiv side of the game but what I am trying to master is to block low and try to move the head well away from hooks etc.. It worked well against inside fighters but not outside ones.Comment

Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
If the computer is landing on you at a high percentage it's likely because you're punching more than you need to and leaving yourself open to be scored upon. At the same time, you can't just sit there trying to defend by guessing where you're going to get punched next either. I've played guys online who just move their gloves up and down and hope that they get lucky lol. Sometimes your best defense is a sound offense. When playing on Champion or G.O.A.T, you will pay if you throw too many wasted punches.
For me, head movement and distance is everything. When your head is constantly moving it makes anticipating where the punches are coming from much easier. The quicker you are able to react, the better your chances are of getting out of the way and coming back with an attack of your own.
As far as distance goes, you should work at trying to keep your opponent at a jabs length as much as possible. By doing this I think you'll get a lot better of seeing body shots coming and learning how to defend them. The computer is very good about hitting the open areas of your body. You want to limit those opportunities for them to capitalize on that.
This is a video of my legacy with Danny Jacobs. My opponent came out early and tried to crowd me. In these situations sometimes you just need to be patient, keep moving, and wait for your opportunity.

Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Question - How are you moving your head like that will simultaneously moving around the ring? It doesn't look like you're using the left stick bob and weave, but you can't move with the left trigger depressed either.Recovering slider addict...Fight Night Round 4 caused me to relapse...Comment

Re: Could some body post some videos of how you play defense?
Bob and weave is an effective way to close down the distance to your opponent, and it can make form some truely deadly counters.
I've only recently started the bob and weave move in supplement to my usual leaning. I feel I've found an excellent balance between the two and as a result I'm on a 4 match unbeaten streak, holding and defending all 3 belts in the heavyweight division in my legacy using parkers champion sliders. What bugs me the most atm is the counter-punch effectiveness in the game. To me the left/right hand power, and the ability to land "clean hits" should have far more weight than simply dodging blows waiting for a counter-punch opening.
That said tho, my biggest problem atm is simply winning normal rounds. With CPU punch output at 2 the seem to be fairly aggressive, and it would seem my defence is yet good enough for me to dodge enough hits to take home some rounds in a "jab-straight-move" kinda strategy while waiting for openings to land hooks and uppercuts. I really wanna perfect this before I start a legacy in middle-weight or light-heavy, because I want my next boxer to be agile and defensive unlike my current "peek-a-boo" guy who comes straight at you and tries to drop bombs (ouch: http://beta.easports.com/media/play/video/7043498).
Anyone got more tips on making the CPU miss more? And more videoes displaying defence would be appreciated :-)It isn't how good you are. It's chaos and luck and anyone who thinks differently is a fool.Comment
