And can someone explain to me how the computer always seems to get the hold on you when you are about to knock their azz out, but when they got you in the red, you cant get no consistency with the hold button? Believe me, I have worked that damn button like old school "Track and Field" on Nintendo and still no dice.

Great sliders though Parker. This game was going back to store before I started using em. EA needs to stop puttin all their eggs in that damned Madden basket, and start focusing on why NBA Live, FN 4, and all the other EA Sports games still are lacking.
Thanks man. Comments like yours make having STS (Sliders Tweaking Syndrome) worth it.

    A couple of things:

Yes, the AI is a joke. That's why I posted my previous response. People that play online LOVE the counter because it's the great equalizer. OFFLINE it's a ridiculous crutch. On higher difficulty levels, the player's regular punches do ZERO damage. So the player HAS to use the counter in order to play well. And the CPU AI, being super-cheat-infused that it is on Champion/GOAT (typical lazy EA) knows that counters can knock you out, so they wait for them.

Without sliders, the offline game would become repetitive and boring very, very quickly as every single fight would play out exactly the same way.

As for clinching, you're 100% correct. It's gotten to the point where I follow every counter punch with a shove, because I know they're going to clinch. If I get stunned, I back up and throw jabs to try and keep him away from me. The only time I ever get knocked down doing that is if I end up on the ropes.

Fam, you dont have to use the counter to play well offline. The AI cheats on GOAT? Please explain if you will.

All I play on is GOAT and that **** is an extreme challenge. I've never once gotten the feeling that the A.I was cheating me in any way, and I get those feelings with certain games, so I know what those feelings are.

Without sliders the game would have been this that and the other? What was your point in even stating that? The fact is, the game DOES HAVE sliders, so there's no need to fabricate an alternate reality where the game doesnt have sliders so you can have something to hate on, lol.

I come on here often and of course read peoples posts, and yours as of late have been bitter as hell, lol. I'm not saying its a big deal, just something I've observed and decided to speak on.

Dog, its cool. You like the game, aint nothing wrong that. Its like you keep trying to find something to hate on, but the game is so slick that its cancelling out your hate, lol. You want to dislike it because its EA, but you cant, lol, because the **** is so raw.

With that being stated, I give you this challenge, I'm on a crusade now, lol. I'm going to make you despise this game like you really want to because its EA.

      1. Up the difficulty to GOAT
      2. Max out boxer toughness.
      3. Max out CPU OFF/DEF awareness
      4. and max out all the ref ****, oh and raise punch power up 2 notches
if I aint mention it, leave it half way.

Go get ya refund mayne, lol.

Re: How come no one complains about the counter punch?

Oh yeah, and with the new sliders, hmmmmm.....I haven't tried em yet, but lets go with.

        1. Counter punch slider at 0 (guess it will take the counter window out of the game completely no?)
        2. Stamina a couple of notches down, so those effects will kick in a little earlier.

        NOOW...go get ya refund, lol.

Oh and as a side note. I know that feelings cant come across with words and people will percieve them different online. So let me say, while I'm over here typing this, I'm crackin up laughin smokin my Black n Mild (wine flavor, my favorite, dont even have to freak them boys, lol)

Its all in jest, I'm just trippin with you mayne, but I'm still serious on the anti EA thing that you and I both know you on, lol.

I've tested in Fight Now using the same fighter for both player and CPU, with both CABs and in-game fighters. The CPU's punches on GOAT do approximately 3 full times the damage that the player's do. A CPU non-counter jab does more damage than a player non-counter uppercut. That is a cheat, no matter how you slice it.

You don't feel cheated at the end of a fight when you have landed 4 times as many punches as the AI yet his blue bar is full and yours is empty?

What are you talking about? I'm not fabricating anything. And I've stated MULTIPLE times that I LOVE this game. By the way, until THIS MORNING, there was no slider for counters...

Maybe you missed this then. Or this. I'm not bitter AT ALL. I'm having a freaking blast with this game.

Again, I'm not "hating". I'm not complaining. I'm pointing out a FACT. This game revolves around the counter punch. It's just a matter of fact.

That first part about the cpu punches doing more damage. Now that I think about that ****, you're completely right.

I always wondered how my stamina and power are lower than the cpus after each round when I'm clearly getting the better of him. I just deal with it I guess, never made a big deal out of it.

Its too late for me now though, I've converted to the darkside mayne, if I try to lower my settings from what they are now, games gonna be entirely too easy for me, lol.

I still think you're one of those anti EA crusaders though, lol, and the challenge still stands.

I'm not making a big deal out of it either. Just pointing out that it's there and real. I just wish they could make the AI smarter instead of stat-boosting the AI, but we've been saying that since the early, early days of Madden and it's never changed.

Well, you'd be wrong then. I've got nothing against EA - defended them multiple times against the "real" anti-EA" crusaders that pop up here from time to time. Go read the thread from before the game came out, when M.I.M.L. was telling us all that this game would suck. Read that and then try to look me in the eye and tell me I'm an anti-EA crusader again. You won't be able to do it.

Furthermore, if you've read in other forums here at OS from time to time over the years, you'll notice that I've been critical of lots of games, from lots of companies. I'm not a fanboy. I don't like Madden, but then again, I've never even played APF. There's things about both games I don't like enough to prevent me from buying them. It has nothing to do with the companies that make them.

I bought Bethesda's Daggerfall for the PC back in the late 90's. It was a nice concept but all-in-all a bug-ridden piece of unplayable crap. I pre-ordered it's successor in hopes it would be better and after fighting with Bethesda for 8 MONTHS, I finally received a copy of the game they said I never ordered, even though I produced receipts. Guess what? The game was an unplayable, bug-ridden piece of crap.

Yet that didn't stop me from buying Oblivion when I bought my 360 and experiencing one of the best RPG's ever released on any platform. Yes, Oblivion, made by Bethesda, was one of the best games I've ever played. See how that works?

Let me make this perfectly clear - FNR4 is THE best boxing game I've ever played, by a WIDE margin (alas, never played VB). I played FNR3 WELL past its useable life, months after 80% of others had moved on. I love both games.

              Truce.

                Someone does complain---you.

Maybe those who are not complaining do not feel like the purpose of life is to complain in forums.

I"ve complained and it's ruined the game for me so I"m getting rid of it during my next release I want to buy.

the mechanic never should have been included as a mechanic at all. It killed the game for me.

I'm pretty sure the idea behind the counter punch system is to put a great deal of emphasis on strategy. Otherwise, it would just be a race of throwing haymakers to do damage. I agree that the counterpunch is waaay too powerful in this game, but I love that they've implemented this new system. They just need to fine-tune it. A counterpunch power slider would be a nice solution.

                        get rid of haymakers
-remove the emphasis on counter punches
-completely remove the parry system and the illeagle blow button
-fix the awful suction that hinders your movement and tries to force you to fight inside
-focus of boxing strategy and movement

this game still has a long way to go before it can be considered a simulation of the sport of boxing.

Counter punching is the same dynamic that parry was in FN3. It's the same exact thing except the counter punch is just more realistic. The logic though runs too often. There shouldn't be that pause with a jab or cross missing. There are times in real fights where I guy will miss big and almost look motionless after he misses, with a window to strike him. But, because the punches in this game are so routine (body, uppercut, hook) the counter system looks identical every time, making it very blah.

I think if you throw a big punch and mis because the guy weaved out of the way, he should be able to have that window of countering. It's just too similar every time.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Use the push button. Creates space. Get a few punches in as they move inside, then push them away.

                              i understand that but:

                              1. pushing does not always work and doesn't solve the problem
                              2. another problem with this "sim" is you get no warning from the ref for pushing, and you should because pushing is illegal in boxing.

I have no issue with "suction" as u are talking about. Make sure you boxers feet are not tangled up with the other guys and make sure u are not circling towards his front foot. The feet hang up sometimes and that can seem like u can't get away. Other than that I have ZERO issue back away from another fighter.
