the suction is definitely there and it has nothing to d owith foot placement. sometimes it doesn't pull you in, it just stops you from moving for a split second. just long enough for the fighter to get to you.

it happens with all fighters but mostly with inside fighters(tyson, frazier etc..).
when it happens you're not close enough their feet to be tangled, let alone be hit. you're usually just outside of their reach.
it appears that the suction is there to compensate for lack of movement and to make it easier for an in-fighter to get in instead of having to chase down a fighter while cutting of the ring.

I fight 5 to 10 fights a night and don't notice it. I have zero issue backing away from guys trying to get inside. If they manage to back me in a corner or near the ropes a simple push and circle out is easy to get some distance.

I think your issue is that guys are just punching and closing in on you and you can't stop it. If I face a "robo puncher", you know one of those cats that just swings and swings and swings. Just block, but don't do the standard hold block. Flick it the direction they are throwing at. A constant puncher is easy to get the counter window because you can time your "flick block". This will quickly stop them from throwing punches nonstop and being right on top you.

The reason I believe this to be your problem is that YES it is hard to escape someone that is just wailing away. They are moving forward and throwing. But a couple good counters later and they learn their mistakes they will quickly adapt or hit the canvas. When I face guys who do that gameplan, it does not last long before they are the ones backing away because of being rocked by a counter. If you are blocking correctly, there is NO suction. I know this for a fact.

I would be more than happy to show you.

aside from the occasional playthrough with friends i don't play this game or any sports game online, so it has nothing to do with guys closing in on me swinging wildly. trust me i know what i'm talking about, i'm not new to sports games.

there is an issue there, you just don't notice it and it has nothing to do with foot position. the game will stop your retreat(for a split second) or it will pull you in.
..but if you don't see it then that's great, your experience will continue to be great ..it's to late for me. after noticing it once i now see it all the time

but thanks for volunteering to show me how to avoid the cheesers(not being sarcastic)

        enjoy the game.

I would say the difference between the counter mechanic and the parry mechanic from R3 is that you at least have the opportunity to defend yourself and move away when you're in the "counter window" in FNR4. For R3 you were totally defenseless if you got caught in the parry from what I remember.

This is true and why this game actually resembles boxing. The window is just there to show you that the boxer has left himself open to a counterpunch. But all it does is slow down time it doesn't paralyze you.

Stop leaving yourself open and if you take chances you run the risk of getting counterpunched just like in real life.

the issues in this game are Stamina, and Right cross strength, along with taking out the haymakers and also being able to turn off the counterpunch window entirely.

Power should come from stepping in with a punch or walking into a punch.

That is ultimately my problem with the counter punch. On higher difficulty levels, which are necessary due to shoddy AI, the counter punch goes up in damage much faster than regular punches, to the point that it becomes the only punch the player CAN use and the only punch the CPU WILL use.
