    Paul Williams vs Sergio Martinez

    Great Awesome classic fight!

Im surprised nobody mentioned it here. I have to say one of the best fight of the year. Both guys truly showed they are true warriors.

I watched it honestly i felt that Martinez won ; Paul won the fight cuz he was home.. i seen it.. and he was gettin worked.. it was alot of give and take. but that last judge was on crack if he think williams was ahead 9 rounds.. i think martinez won by one or two... he had the more effective punches. and he dropped him..I felt Martinez had 1 or 2 rounds on him.. Or Maybe a draw.. i just think Martinez fought the better fight.

The outcome really doesnt matter at this point.. because people seen what happened.. and it tarnishes Paul Williams mystique.. while given Martinez some big fights.. Paul is gonna have to choose a division.. and stick with it. His air of invincibility is diminished.

That was definitely a great fight. I had Martinez edging it out, but I could see it either way honestly.

There was a lot of discussion about the fight in this thread.

I haven't been around much lately, but I absolutely think it was one of the most entertaining fights I saw in 2009 - definitely a FotY candidate.

I thought it was pretty close to a draw. If anybody had an edge, it was probably Martinez, which pains me to say - Paul is my favorite.

The 119-110 card was an absolute joke.

Co-sign. Martinez absolutely Rocked Williams a few times. Williams has a granite chin, and ridiculous heart. Martinez definitely landed WAY more power shots, and Williams was the volume puncher but never really hurt Martinez. I thought Martinez edged it out, but it could've gone either way.

this fight was definitely one of the best of the year, very close and exciting fight to watch.

as for the 119-110 score, it reminds of the malignaggi vs. diaz fight where i think the same score was given in favor of diaz, who in my opinion lost that fight.

but something that bugged me about this fight was the first knockdown from williams on martinez.

it didn't really look like a solid punch more like a grazing on the top of the head, so can that be considered a knockdown if it more of a balance issue than an actual punch?

It was definitely not a knockdown, but the ref called it a knockdown and there is no disputing that unfortunately.

GREAT FIGHT!!! i gave it to martinez too, but i think a draw would have been good. martinez=power shots. williams=volume of punches. there NEEDS to be a rematch!!

Tough call. It wasn't a slip, as the ring was dry in the area Martinez went down, and he didn't trip over his or Williams' feet. A glancing blow while Martinez was off-balance. About the cheapest knockdown you'll see!

This was a great fight. My third-best fight of the year behind Dunne-Cordoba and Lopez-Mtgawa. It BEGS for a rematch.

                  Take care,

just saw the fight, was great!

is lynne (judge) a woman too like julie?

maybe women should be judging this stuff

these are the kinds of fights where there are no true losers...it was a great war - who cares who won really?

I'm not sure it changes the landscape of the division, again, great fight!

Agreed. two true warriors in the last of the mohicans era of boxing. I loved that fight and they should fight and 2nd and 3rd time to prove the best man. I would glady watch.
