Forget Pacquiao and Mayweather: Great B.A.D. card this Saturday on HBO

I don't know about you cats, but I've had enough talk about Pacquiao and Mayweather for one month, especially when you consider the quality card this Saturday night on "Boxing After Dark" on HBO:

Juan Manuel Lopez (27-0-0) vs Steven Luevano (37-1-1)
    ~ WBO Featherweight Title ~
Yuriorkis Gamboa (16-0-0) vs Rogers Mtagwa (26-13-2)
~ WBA World Featherweight Title ~

JuanMa and Gamboa are two of the most exciting young fighters in boxing today, and they'll continue on a collision course if they win their respective fights Saturday in New York.

But nothing is guaranteed. Luevano is no stiff, and Mtgawa gave JuanMa the toughest challenge of his young career last fall in a GREAT fight. Mtgawa's record is SO deceiving -- the guy is a very solid, tough fighter.

Gamboa has insane speed and atomic fists, but he also has very lax defense. Combine that with Mtgawa's cast-iron chin, and an upset could be brewing. Then again, Gamboa could flatten Mtgawa in the first round.

This should be the best card of boxing this month. Watch it!

I'd bet on Gamboa doing some flattening earlier. I'll be taping this one.

Nobody else is jazzed about this card except for Jay and me?

Come on, fellas: There's more to boxing than Money May and Pacman. This should be a HELL of a card!

I too think this is a great card. I'm interested to see how JuanMa will attack Luevano's defense. Although a bore to watch, Luevano is a very good technician. Plus he has the reach and slight height advantage.

Never seen Gamboa fight, but I'm looking foward to watching his match w/ Mtagwa.

Should be a fun Saturday night of boxing.

You're in for a treat. Gamboa has insane speed, will throw four-punch combos, great power. But he also has lackadaisical defense, to say the least. He's already been down three times in 16 fights against limited opposition, although he's been past the sixth round only three times.

So it's never dull with Gamboa.

This looks like a great card....unfortunately I don't have HBO, so I'll have to settle for watching it on YouTube in a day or two after the fight . For those of you that have HBO and/or Showtime, how often do they have B.A.D. or ShowBox on nowadays? It's not every weekend is it? If it's more than once a month I just might subscribe to get my boxing fix.

On a side note, I can't wait for the JuanMa-Gamboa match-up. I have to agree with you pk500, if they both make it through their bouts tonight, I would think that the next logical step for both fighters would be to square-off and unify the belts in the near future. Though "logical" and "boxing" aren't usually two words most would associate together with fight negotiations nowadays

my main reason for not being hyped is the division. I'll watch, but generally dudes less than 140 lbs are like children in my eyes. Why do I care who the best 125 lb boxer is? In general, most guys don't have stopping power.

DAMMIT!!! I Harold didn't scream JIM! ...because jim's not doing the fight, bob is.

...back to the tv to watch the fight ... JIM!

                  Yuriorkis Gamboa disagrees with you.

yeah I know man...I've actually seen him before and forgot he was that small. It's good quality boxing tonight. Gamboa is a killer.

PK is your name by any chance from "the power of one"?

Nice watch last night. Gamboa & Juan Ma both looked good. Gamboa as usual look very explosive with his hand-speed & Juan Ma as usual breaking down his opponent over time.

Hopefully a Juan Ma/Gamboa match can get done for this year. Would be a great fight.

Gamboa has mad quickness in his hands. On top of that, Mtagwa lacked defense. His defense was not tight at all.

JuanMa did a good job pressuring Luevano and taking him out of his game.

I'm looking forward to the Lopez/Gamboa matchup.

Max Kellerman was spot-on, as usual: Mtgawa's straight-ahead style made him a perfect target for Gamboa's speed and multi-punch combos.

I'm also salivating over Lopez-Gamboa. Really hard to call. JuanMa seems to be a better technician and can break guys down, but Gamboa's speed and power may not give him time to read and make adjustments.

Very intriguing fight among two of the top prospects in the game today.
