I'll watch the rest of this one play out but I don't see it getting any better for Abraham.

Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
Anyone else catch this? I'm just now watching it on DVR through 8 rounds so far, and I did not expect Dirrell to dominate this much. I really like both fighters but I was rooting for Abraham in this one. I've never seen Abraham look so helpless in the ring. And Dirrell is looking better than ever.

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
10th round, Abraham just caught Dirrell CLEAN for a knockdown but the ref for some reason did not rule it a KD. Lame. Abraham just dominated the whole round though and still has a chance.
EDIT: Well that was anticlimactic... DQ on Abraham for catching Dirrell while he was down...Last edited by HotSauce2k3; 03-28-2010, 05:48 AM.

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
Abraham's 10th round KD was no slip. I thought Abraham had a shot of coming back in dramatic fashion.
But Direll was fighting a great fight up to that point. His KD in the 4th was nice and I was surprised he had enough power to floor an iron-chined Abraham.
I hope he's okay after this 'win' and it won't affect him in future tournament bouts.Comment

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
Abraham claiming Dirrell faked being hurt. I don't know what looked more fake, Abraham's complaints for shots below the belt or his complaints about how he thought Dirrell wasn't down. Dirrell's glove was on the canvas and he was sitting on his left heel. Dirrell looked really bad at the end of the fight. I was excited to see Abraham fight but after tonight, I have very little respect for him.Comment

I saw the fight last night. dirrell was so disoriented. obviously, abraham was frustrated and took the slip as an opportunity to make something out of nothing. horrible sportmanshipfool me once... shame on me.

SMH.
It's gonna be interesting to see how both of these fighters bounce back from this fight. Dirrell for obvious reasons, and Abraham for suffering his first loss.

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
i lost alot of respect for AA last night.I also have no respect for his cornermen as they were purposely leaving the floor wet as dirrell slipped in the same spot twice.well now the entire boxing world knows how to beat AA,just frustrate him and he will get him self dq'ed!
Dirrell really should have gotten more credit for his outstanding performance last night.he truly gave AA a boxing lesson.AA fights froch next, that fight should be a slugfest!!Comment

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
It should also be mentioned how horrible referee Lawrence Cole is. Missing Dirrell's KD on Abraham at the end of the 7th. Abraham's KD on Dirrell in the 10th, which probably played a factor in him losing his cool and taking the cheap shot in the 11th. There was also a point in the 8th round where Abraham had Dirrell pinned on the ropes and was gaining major momentum, and then the ref broke it up for no reason.
IIRC, this is the same ref that botched two knockdown calls in Pacquiao vs Barrera I.
Why does this dude still have a job?Last edited by HotSauce2k3; 03-28-2010, 11:10 AM.

HotSauce, I could not agree with you more on this one. Dirrell CLEARLY knocked down Abraham in the 7th (when the ropes were the only thing keeping him up), and Abraham cleanly knocked Dirrell down in the 10th. I agree that the missed calls led to the frustration of Abraham and the eventual outcome.
Having said that, watching Dirrell outclass Abraham all night was a thing of beauty, and his boxing was so clean and disciplined, I was just enjoying the fight thoroughly. I feel like Dirrell deserved better than to have his superior night overshadowed by a bush-league move from Abraham. I honestly think Abraham should be suspended for at least a few months - that was a hellacious shot that he delivered on a fighter who was clearly already down. I mean, Dirrell went down, Abraham delivered a half-punch which he pulled back, realized Dirrell was clearly down, then paused and just unloaded a ridiculous power shot to his a completely undefended head. It's not like Dirrell was on the way down or had just slipped and Abraham had already let his hands go - that can definitely happen. This was no accident.
There's no question Abraham knew what he was doing, and unless I hear him retract his statement in the next few days, I've lost all respect for him (as a person and a fighter). I'm willing to say that in the immediate aftermath of the fight, maybe he was just amped up and trying to make sense of what happened, reacted badly, or whatever. I could understand that. But, after a cooling-off period of a few days, if he doesn't come out with a statement that he just reacted, was frustrated, apologizes, or whatever, I think he should be suspended indefinitely. What he did is so dangerous and unacceptable, I don't think anybody like that should be allowed back in a ring.Comment

Re: Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell 3/27/10
Great fight it sucks it ended on a cheap shot... but he really clocked Dirrell while he was down..... not sure if Dirrell reaction was fake or not, but it really didnt matter, when he got up he seemed upset, like he got knocked out.... I think he honestly thought he lost the fight.... he was damn near in tears in the interview...Comment
