Two Things That Have To Be Removed From FN: Champion

The first would be illegal blows and the manner in which they effect a fight. The purposeful programming of button mapping illegal blows has to be done awy with for this title to be considered a simulation of the sport. You can perhaps make it a tendency when boxers are close and contact is being made, but this business of enabling you to lunge your head forward and it take away a good amount of your opponent's health it just silly.

The second would be haymakers. This again should not be programmed as one modified button so that you can suddenly throw a "superpunch." I can appreciate a button that utilizes a more aggressive punch, but it should take a substantial amount of stamina from your boxer and his stamina should take a while to re-cooperate if he throws them in violent succession.

I still play FN4 and it has by far given me the most enjoyability, more than any other sports game this generation, but the above two things must be dealt with in this title's next showing.

i agree with the illegal blow situation..when you get hit in the nuts it shouldnt be a dizzy ko situation.maybe the ref should just give you extra time to breathe.... FN4 if both fighters stamina are pretty low the first person to use the illegal shot can get the KD...we all know in real life the winner who won that way would lose a lot respect..... Golota was close to being one of those....and he was unintentional..... \

However i dont agree with the haymakers option...... i say leave as is and dont make it any easier.....

You talking about online or offline?

I would say both. It's worse online, but both for me. Just consider how silly the haymaker looks in its animation. It's just too unrealistic. Yes, a big power punch should have a little more momentum and drama to it, but not like that. As far as the illegal blow, perhaps you could factor such a thing into a fighter's character. But to deliberately set a button so you can throw your head at someone is more fittng for Ready to Rumble.

Offline is more tolerable. I have never seen a CPU opponent illegal blow.

the ridiculous parries of 3 & 4 should be gone for this thank God...but the biggest letdown according to 86% of players this year (poll on ign board) was the counter window...PLEASE get rid of this nuisance...other than that, speed up the punches a bit (kinda like 2004)...thats all

Jab and cross need to be more effective and they need to include more flash knockouts IMO. Not to the point of UFC 2010 but a little more frequency from FNR4 would be nice.

Agreed, no place for low blows and intentional headbutts, we need unintentional head clashes instead.

Haymakers in their current form need to be reworked. Hopefully the new "Full-Spectrum Controls" they have mentioned will handle this. The cartoonish windups are terrible, but their needs to be a way to choose to throw a "haymaker" or power punch, but it needs to be properly balanced.

Best solution I can think of is to keep the button mapping the same, make the haymaker punch animation faster and more realistic, but the following should happen:

              1) If you land, there should be a short delay so it can't be combo'ed out of, so you will always need to use it to finish a combination.

              2) If the opponent blocks it, it should drain the opponents block meter more than a regular version of the punch.

              3) If an opponent avoids it (by either: a sidestep to the correct side, bob correctly timed bob&weave on non-uppercuts, step back out of range or the punch is thrown out of range and doesn't land), there should be a decent sized counter-window for you to be punished (For the record I am opposed to the counter-window being included in FNC except in this circumstance).

Using "power shots" like these should also tax the fighter's short term stamina, a mechanic that needs an large overhaul in FNC itself.

I actually like the counter window. Not necessarily how it was implemented, but the IDEA that you have to be careful about what and when you are throwing. Maybe a counter should still register, but without that "pause". Basically, keep it the same (counter shots hurt more, same sound effects to emphasize, etc.), but remove the "pause". Ok, maybe that's what you all are talking about...

Special Punches - What is this, Street fighter., as stated in a nother thread.

Haymakers - Should all be from user input eg, player direction, punch type.

Counter Window - Should be user timing plus opponent momentum (depending on punch type).

Ice skating - Come on, we're deep into next gen, controlled players should look like they are walking and planting their feet when changing direction and throwing punches.

Illegal Blows - Fight Night Round 4 gave us the opportunity to get closer to the cpu, this is where head collisions can come into the picture. Low blows should be a combination of punch type plus user and cpu direction.

These should all happen naturally depending on what the user does. Not some pre-programmed action., get rid of that.
...we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...
