Fight Night - Get rid of the block funcion

In the last releases of fight night, many fighters tend to walk around flailing their arms up and down as if they have some sort of physical illness. My answer, ditch blocking. Let me explain....

Many boxers punch from their guard position (Wright comes to mind) and are quite effective. The fact that a fighters guard deteriorates during a fight is good and should stay as is. But let guard be utilized based on a stat number rather than someone moving the stick up and down. Also a head movement ranking should be used as well, as many fighters don't block often but rather move their head and stay on the offensive.

    Thoughts?

Yeah I posted my thoughts on a simplified Blocking mechanic over on the EAs boards

    Ive said this before.....

This has been one of the most annoying things for me while playing FN4.....

Providing they get rid of counter windows and up punchng power to realistic levels......

I wouldn't be opposed to just making the block be 1 button you hold down.......and your fighters stats decide how well the block tracks and stands up to punches

Maybe Im wrong about this, but too me it would free users up for a much better back and forth contest.....especially if they implement a feint system

Of course they have to put in the testing to make it so people can't just turtle up......they'd need to add another stat that monitors the fatigue of your arms......That was another area I wasn't too thrilled with in FN4 either.....it was very hard to break a guy down through their guard like a jose luis castillo or Chaveaz

If you've been blocking too long then your hands should be lower and your punch speed also take a slight hit

Ratings would really have to matter though.....There should be a very noticeable difference between a guy of 82 to 88 arm staminia

Now you might think this caparison is a little crazy because its not boxing, but it displays the "Back and Forth" im envisioning if they tune this system right.......

This is a mod for Jedi Academy....yes its a SW lightsavber duel..
The blocking in this is just one button and it blocks according to stats and stamina
Granted the animations would need to be better(this is a mod), but I think this system would be pretty good for a boxing game as well.....it would give it that "easy to pick up and play but difficult to master" feel

I loved the auto block of Victorious Boxers 1 on PS2. It be nice to get a similar auto block mechanic.

I'd prefer a 1 buttom method over a completely automated one. The game is too offensive as it is. I want to participate on defense, but it's way too hard to block punches as is.

On a related point, if the footwork were better, the defense would be better as the stalkers/brawlers wouldn't have such an easy job walking you down.

With EA boasting the easiest punching controls ever this year, I'm betting on another brawl fest. The only game EA makes with decent defense is FIFA.

          I agree with you.

Re: Fight Night - Get rid of the block funcion

To tell you the truth it could be easy fix the blocking in Fight Night. First they would have to look at actual boxing and the fighters that they will use in the game. Then they will have to see what type of defense the fighter uses, if he stands flat foot and blocks or avoids the punches all together. Then look at what happens when a fighter like Floyd stands still vs. what happens when he moves his feet and he's blocking.

Basically if you're using Floyd to stand flat foot in front of someone to block, you should get about 2 punches Max before he has to move out of there and punches start getting through. If he's blocking while moving, he can block more punches. Or avoid more punches.

For guys who are not good at defense, or blocking..they can only block about 1 or two punches at a time or move out. THEN they would have to look at the type of punches that are easy to block vs. punches that are hard to block. THEN factor in what boxers block shots to the head with ease and let body shots land.....and vice versa. I know I made it sound hard, but I think it could be easy to fix.

Just don't allow anyone to dig in. Even for guys who try to mix it up. You shouldn't be able to mix it up with someone who can't. Just because you know how to mix it up with success, you should have little success given the stats of each fighter.
