    Best Boxer ever?

    I don't use this forum a lot, so I'm not entirely sure that this type of thread is allowed here, but I was curious as to who people think is the greatest boxer ever.

    I am not a hardcore fan of boxing; I do not watch boxing regularly and I do not know very much of its history. However, in my opinion, Joe Louis was the greatest in history.

    Why? Joe's second fight with Max Schmeling was probably the most important fight in the history of boxing. It was probably the most important sports event ever. I would find it hard to think of a more important event, the only one that comes to mind is the Saint's superbowl victory.

    Anyways, who was the best boxer ever and why?

      Joe is def top 5 I love him!

      but best ever is Sugar Ray Robinson. He is the single best boxer in history bar none. I wish prime SRR was here to whip prim PBF.

      Rock is up there imo, Ali, although for me Ali would be 5th best or something along those lines.

      Robinson proved himself over and over - never lost a rematch - yes he did lose, but being undefeated has nothing over the career he put together. I do not see him ever being topped. GOAT.

      speed. take a punch. give a punch. combinations. ring movement. stamina etc. and on and on and on.

      edit - watch this and it will make it clear:

        Sugar Ray Robinson, he went 40 fights and 3 years without a loss, dropped a 10-round decision to Jake LaMotta, and wouldn't lose again in 91 fights over 8 years. He was 129-1-2 (83) before his 2nd loss to Randy Turpin. His resume is a HOF roster. He fought more HOF members then anyone in history. He was Muhammad Ali's idol and as near perfect as you could get in a fighter. Think of him as the Michael Jordan of Boxing. He wasn't the strongest, fastest, or toughest but put it all together and you get Sugar Ray Robinson.

          In terms of "boxing", I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best "boxer" of all time. Now if the question was best fighter, that would be a different story

                Mayweather has too much skill to be considered LBJ, i would consider him to be Kobe in this list.

                        Mayweather was a champ. Lebron haven't won no rings.

                        Who would u compare Mike Tyson too? Shaq?

                            Yes sir
                            Kobe= Mayweather
                            Lebron= Pacquiao
                            Mayweather has skills that have not been seen since Robinson, unfortunately he rarely exhibits his talent. Much like Kobe being the current player whose skill level most closely resembles Jordan.
                            Pacquiao is more comparable to Lebron. They are both great hype machines that get a lot of media attention. LBJ has yet to win a title and prove that he's deserves to be in the same class as Kobe or Duncan and Pacquiao is fighting taylor made opponents and looking great to the untrained eye but he's not really challenging himself, testing his skills, defending a title belt at any weight class or fighting the best opposition available.

                              Amare Stoudimire. he came straight out of high school, won rookie of the year, blew Tim Duncan and the rest of leagues big men right off the court. He had so much talent and potential it was scary thinking about it but then he got injured and lost a few steps he's still around but not the unstoppable force that he looked to be when he was young. Shaq proved his greatness time after time winning titles and dominating the league for years. Tyson was around a long time but never destroyed Lennox or Holyfield, he was great for about 2yrs when Buster TKO him and he never dominated again.
