Martinez-Dzinziruk
The upset is coming. Well at least I hope so. I'm a fan of Martinez. I think his one punch KO win over Williams was great. A little blown out of proportion, but still great. I know there is not a lot of info on Dziniruk, but for those that haven't seen him fight, you guys are in for a treat. One word..........the jab. They guy has one of, if not the best jab in boxing right now. Maybe not the best, but nobody else come to mind. This guy combos off it, controls distance with it, uses it as a defensive tool. All this with the most basic punch in boxing. This is exactly what makes him so effective with it. Most fighters use the jab to set up the big punches. Others use it as a range finder. He uses one punch for everything. The best thing about is jab is that it's always ready based on what his opponent is about to do.

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
If I go by name recognition, I would first think that Martinez is taking a tune up bout. Then after further investigation Dziniruk is a capable boxer, but I don't believe he is a special fighter. Martinez though slightly past his prime is a special boxer and that to me is gonna be the difference.

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
If I have to be honest, I think Martinez will eventually get to Dziniruk with his speed and angles. Maybe around the 8th or 9th when he figures out how to get past the jab. I most always pull for the underdog and I can watch Dziniruk jab for a full 12 rounds. That jab is a thing of beauty. I'm still going with Dziniruk by UD, but the smart bet is on Martinez by KO or stoppage later on in the fight imo. To the part in bold, this is his chance and time to be great. Lets see if he delivers.

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
That would be an upset. Not a lot of activity. He last fought 10 months ago and he's had two fights in the last 28 months against questionable competition.
Martinez is world class battle tested in his last four fights. Two with Paul Williams and one each with Pavlik and Cintron.
At worst an easy decision win for Martinez. (IMO)Comment

It's almost time. Witness the greatest jab currently in the boxing world today.
Dzinziruk by UD. 8 rounds to 4. The jab and foot-movement will be too much for Martinez."If you claim to be the best then you FIGHT the best! You don't duck and you don't pick and you don't choose and if you get your butt kicked you just get your butt kicked!"

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
The Lee-McEwen fight was freaking fantastic!
Lee looked out on his feet and seemed only a good punch away from being stopped.
But he started throwing his left hand in the middle rounds and slowly started wearing down McEwen. Then came a big 9th and huge 10th.
I think it's safe to say he saved his career tonight.Comment

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
Agreed, that fight was outstanding, great comeback by Lee after getting killed for about 5 straight rounds. Dzinziruk just got knocked down again, looks like this fight might be over, Dzinziruk hasn't really come close to hurting Martinez except for maybe one decent right.Comment

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
Wow, Dzinziruk looked like he was showing some signs of life in the 7th round and got a couple good shots in and then Martinez comes out and knocks him down 3 times in the 8th for the win. Martinez is a beast, just dominated start to finish except for one little hiccup in the 7th.Comment

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
Martinez is the man, but poor Dzinziruk had no business being at 160. I couldn't say that before, but after that destruction this guy was way too overwhelmed by a true middleweight.
I hope this doesn't ruin Dzinziruk's career. Big losses like that one have done worse to better fighters.
But I think it's clear he needs to stay at 154 and try his luck against the likes of Cotto or even Alvarez.
What's next for Martinez? There are so many great fights out there for him right now; Pirog, Lemieux or even Kirkland.
I don't think any of those guys have what it takes to take him down. But he is 35 so hopefully he gets in a few more big fights before his skills decline or he retires.
One things for certain, despite Lee's dramatic come-from-behind victory, he's cleary not ready for the champ. A few more fights to season him up before he takes that challenge.
All in all, what a great night of boxing on HBO. Boxing needs more big fights to end dramatically and with excitement. Both Lee and Martinez delivered.
I don't have access to the Cotto-Mayorga fight, but I hope they can bring it too. Seeing as both fighters like to bang, I wouldn't be shocked if that's an entertaining bout as well.Comment

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
Great fight by Martinez. I was a little shocked at how Dzinziruk was coming forward as much as he was. He got in the most trouble when he was leading. After seeing how Martinez handled his jab, I don't think it would have turned out any differently if Dzinziruk would have stayed back and controlled distance instead of advancing so much."If you claim to be the best then you FIGHT the best! So is it safe to say that Martinez has the best jab in the boxing world today?
Martinez straight destroyed dude. His power is not a fluke folks. I also loved how he called out Floyd."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Martinez-Dzinziruk
It was pretty amazing that Marinez was having trouble seeing yout of his left eye, so it was go time. Lights out for Dzinziruk.
Martinez continues to amaze. He called Pac and Floyd to the carpet. Neither will take that fight though, especially Floyd.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment
