    Re: IGN Review

I can't say strongly enough how much I dislike Legacy Mode. It's off the mark in almost every way. The training modes are too hard and become tedious. And why do boxers start off fighting so pathetically? No stamina, no power. The matches are slow and boring. I want to be a rising star. Legacy Mode acts like Mike Tyson's first professional fight had him swinging like a kid on the playground.
Exactly!! Why haven't any game developers figured this out yet??? Was PBF a slow, poor defensive fighter in his first pro bout???? NO! So why isn't this changed?
There have been thousands of ideas posted on OS about how this can be tackled. And in a fun and enticing way.
But now, we get the same, start at 50, grind through tedious training mini-games and eventually bulk up to a 99 OV. SNORE!!!!!

That quote above pretty much guaranteed that I'll be renting first. MLB2K11 will get my March $$$.

It's really disappointing that I have to wait another 24 months before we see if Legacy Mode gets the much deserved overhaul it needs.

But I guess the offline, franchise/career nerd will continue to be ignored in all EA sports games. It's all about online, HUT, MUT, FUT, BUT, SUT, etc. for all of us from here on out.

    Very disappointed.

As sports games evolve, we need to drop the whole 'starting a professional career as a bum' thing. Seriously it doesn't make sense anymore.

2k11 is great, but he was right about that too, you don't get in the nba sucking in every category including speed, vert, shooting, quickness and so on.

In boxing you don't turn pro punching like a girl and getting gassed in one round.

I"m sure I'll still enjoy the mode after griding out the beginning, but there's a better way and it's about time we get it.
Yeah all sports games need to let the player create what type of ATH ability you're created player has and then build skills over the course of your career all while keep your ATH ability in tip top shape and improving it.

G4 /Tech TV gave it 5 out of 5, despite knocking online as being limited and legacy mode. He was obvoiusly impressed with the gameplay.

        The Pros
        Champion Mode's clever match variables
        Simplified controls mean faster fights
Easy to pull off crushing, satisfying combos

        The Cons
        Champion Mode's atrocious final boss
        Disappointing multiplayer suite

It's real simple. When you start a career, how about allowing the user to choose their fighters starting points? I just plunked $70 on a game. If I want to be a dominant fighter immediately I should have that option.
For more hardcore gamers, have a 'random' option for the CPU to randomly generated fixed stats.

Then add things like training, diet and give us multiple fighters to manage so you have a range of difficulty from your own stable of fighters.
Sure, you might have a dominant fighter but if you don't do proper training he'll enter the ring fat and out of shape.
Some of your random fighters might have great, good or mediocre attributes so you're forced to pick the right opponents on the way to the top. Or even avoid some of them.

When you start you career you face guys who are good at one thing (great power, speed, chin, defense, jab, etc).
As you progress you'll face fighters who might have 2 or 3 great skills.
By the time you're facing top contenders or champs you're facing 4 and 5 star opposition.
Not only that, but maybe they fight smarter too. Early on, some guys might try to fight back if they're stung, but a very smart fighter will look to stick and move to recover or grab on.

And by adding a 'managers' mode where you have to manage multiple fighters, their skills and personalities you get a career mode that's actually worthy of spending time on.

EA could include this mode as well as the same stale boring, fight-train-add points, grind that's been around since the 80's.
So for those that don't want that hassle, they can go back to what they know.
But for offline gamers who want more than a cheese sandwich, this manager's mode is the steak we've been craving.

This is both silly and disappointing.

All they have to do is make it like Dungeons and Dragons and you can start off at any number of ratings from the get go. Then they need to have a hidden potential rating.

So say for example you start out with Boxer A and he starts off with a killer right hook and great stamina. But his hidden potential is low. So he starts off in the low/mid 80's but never really gets any of the other stats up. Kind of like a Cotto or Pavlik who pretty much capped their potential early. Very good fighters but never achieved greatness.

Then you have a guy like Paq who may have started off with average power and average ability to take a punch but his hidden potential to improve in almost every category led him to greatness.

You would have to get pretty deep in a career to understand what you really had.

Then we also need to have tomotao cans and greta fighters spread throughout the lower end of the rankings so you could end up fighting a young Mike Tyson for example in your second fight. He would be able to crush you unless of course you started out with a great fighter yourself.

We've gone over this before for years and years, but the developers decide to add a Prizefighter II mode instead of listening to fans suggestions.

              That would be awesome!

And this is where you would add the value of a good manager. If he's not very good, he pits you against a guy that you're not ready for, or is a once-in-a-generation fighter.
So you have to scout ahead, or trust your match-maker to ensure you're given the best possible chance to succeed.

At the same time, maybe your manager realizes you're the Tomato Can so you might as well get paid while you have some value. Sure, you'll be fodder for some golden-boy, but at least you're helping pay the gyms bills.

Why can't they do the same thing with this game that they did with the MMA game. What I mean by that is your fighter started out with a pretty good rating

Just as I expected. I'll try this in a few months when it's $15.

I actually really like this game. The Champion mode gives fights more meaning, and online is cool. My only beef with this game is that the ref blocks the view at times.
