I think this game may be THE ONE to shoot EA in the foot

Anyone else here feeling totally ripped off by EA on this one? I know I do. Now here's the deal, this game epitomizes everything wrong with EA and their games. This time around they actually gave us an online demo to really get us hooked and psyche us out. But I really feel this is gonna be the last straw with alot of people. I had a few OWC fights and the mess I seen is just ridiculous. I'm not going into details suffice it to say if I were a producer and this was my finished product I'd be ashamed to tell anyone.

Well what this game has told me is the old "bait and switch" is more alive than ever. Another game that's only good between friends, go and fight strangers to prove your love of skill and the old song starts to play "what's love got to do with it" more appropriately what's skill got to do with it?

Here's where I think they shot themselves in the foot with this game. I had intentions on taking a chance with Shift 2 this year and POSSIBLY (if that game was any good) taking a chance with Madden. As it stands I will not be buying any EA games that directly or loosely have a relation to any sport. Shift 2 is now COMPLETELY off my radar and not a thought as is Madden and Elite if it was coming out and looked good. There IS no amount of hype that will have me put my good money on these games.

Some will say "Well what if the game is good?". I guarantee that before the month is out on any EA game you'll start to see the dark side. I'm done with EA games really. I don't think I'm the only one with this mindset either. I think alot of people are gonna feel burned on this one.

I saw it coming from a mile away with the so much of the focus being on the story mode. They should have spent the bulk of the trailers showing improvements in gameplay and realism. This is not an NBA 2k level game where your gameplay is so consistantly realistic and polished that you can focus your marketing on something like a "Jordan Challenge" or some kind of story mode.

EA isn't going anywhere. They could have replaced the game disc with Punch-Out and people would still do business with them. The only thing that would potentially be a game changer would be more competition.

I have to admit my love for boxing clouded my judgement. The reviewers also raved about the game.

I read some of the negative comments but I thought, it can't be that bad. I'll find a work around. It clear that the community day guys were given the bait and switch so they would come back to the websites and hype the game and give EA good free press. That alone should force a boycott.

The Champion mode is nothing but a fancy story wrapped around a meddiocre tutorial that most likely cost alot of time and resources.

The rest of the game is barely playable based on the fact that stamina is broken and the sliders don't work.

You may be able to edit the tendencies of all the licensed boxers and get some decent play now fights, but stamina may be an issue still. I haven't taken the time to do that as it may just be a waste of time.

So basically, yes. EA has lost me as a customer for full price purchases. I may still buy Madden or NCAA football 5 months after the fact after all the patches are out and I have done my due diligence and talked to people I trust. I will never buy a title at launch again. I'm older though, so this may be my last hoorah for video games on the console. I am most likely going to exclusively play strategy games on the PC.

I am in the exact same boat...read the negatives and bought anyway thinking that I could adjust it to make it work. Unfortuantly the harsh reality that I am seeing is that as a pure sim gamer i need to stay away from EA completly.

NBA2k11 and The Show are fantastic and cater to the sim crowd while every EA title I have ever purchased (almost every sports title except Live every year) has been a constant forced acceptance of arcade and gimic features that they felt necessary to put in to sell discs often times at the expense of sim gamers.

What drives me up a wall is that even some of the great sim features that make their way into the game get removed to cater to the arcade, I want it now mentality. For example, I want sliders to be able to slow fights down and get realistic punch totals and true to life fights. We get sliders but they are broken and we are told they aren't going to be fixed.

In the absence of playable offline I would like good accurate and competetive online boxing but we get a free for all microtransaction world where guys buy their points and put them all on defense and one punch and ruin online for those that want to play it straight up. Those of us that want to be able to weed those fighters out and not step into a fight with a cheeser get slapped again because their solution is to remove the overalls from the main screen and make it even tougher to identify a cheeser.

We want full fleshed out legacy mode, we get a story mode where not only can you not adjust teh ratings of the character you are playing, you can't even pick your fights or alter the story at all. Honestly, I could just go watch Diggstown to get the same effect as playing Champion mode.

Madden...you want a fully fleshed out franchise mode, here have a Ultimate Team option that those of you that spend more extra money on will be much better than others and they wont even be able to compete oh and look we have one of the greatest franchise teams ever working on this mode so you know its going to be good...oh what about the franchise mode in our game...umm we'll do that next year.

Needless to say it is going to take alot for me to even purchase another EA title again. And like I said this is coming from someone that has bought on average Madden, NCAA, NHL, & FIFA every year for the past 15 years.

I am completely with you Fist. I am going back to only PC after this generation of consoles. I spent close to 10 hours this weekend gaming on my PC and ohhh it felt good. Servers to browse through to find players with same mind set as you, better graphics than consoles, excellent controls & ability to use 360 controller, and lastly FREE to play online!

I'm with you guys on this one. I'll keep the PS3 as it's a great Bluray player and I'll keep my 360's just because but like you guys said it's now time to go to PC gaming. I think I'm going that way sooner than later. I'm into racing so it's easier to do a triple screen setup with the PC than with the consoles wanting you to buy 3 consoles AND 3 copies of the game for triple screen racing. GTFOH

I would like to see the sales of this title compared to the sales for others that EA produces. I'm going to go on a hunch and say that EA could be a little surprised by the success of the Fight Night franchise regarding sales. Does anyone know how many devs worked on Fight Night? I'll bet it pales in comparison to the numbers that worked on Madden, FIFA and the NCAA football game.

I'm not trying to defend EA, I'm just trying to think of why there seems to be such little support after release. Plus why some features that were promised never seemed to show up.

Gotta love how the hyped and 2 years of production story mode took me 3:30 to beat on Champion level.

Oh, and also how they stole all their story ideas from other boxing games, even down to the same overpowered left hook Black guy from VB2.

I'm sad because I think the game is good, can be great with some fixes, but sadly I don't think that'll ever happen.

Re: I think this game may be THE ONE to shoot EA in the foot

I hate to say, but I'm disappointed as well. The story mode is lame for this sport. You basically have to follow the objectives and there is no straying from them.

The legacy mode is a little lame too. The computer will throw 300 power punches and never seem to get tired. It might be just me, but clinching either never works for me or you can't unclinch. I have two legacy boxers. One is basically busted out now after a few losses in a row (tyson flash KOd him and it's been downhill since...not even fun to play) and the other is a middleweight who is 14-2 with 13 KOs and can't seem to rank higher than 19 and get a PPV.

The training is stupid. Why schedule a sparring session the week before the fight when you need rest? Why have that week? Make it rest only.

I don't really see anything but a roster update and a bad story mode (and some cussing) from FNR4. With the show out and Tiger coming in a few weeks, this might be collecting dust. I'm temped to trade it back for some nice $, but I like to keep a boxing game since I traded FNR4 for this.

Not worth $60 IMO. If you want this, wait for a price drop. Rosters (like from the big four) isn't a problem since this is all fantasy.

Not hating, just giving my .02 as a paying customer.

There was no bait and switch here.

The demo was an accurate representation of the final product. You have no one but yourself to blame for feeling conned if all you did was play the demo with your friends. All I needed was one round against the AI to know FNC was more of the same crap and not worth a penny of my hard earned money.

Well EA is 2 for 2 with this and TW12 as that is horrible as well as they totally revamped the gameplay at the hardest level to make it arcadey just like this game and luckily it's the demo so I'm not buying that one and glad I saved money by not buying this one either.

EA a this point should be banned from making any sports games. They truly do not know or care what they are doing.

They know exactly what they are doing. They are catering their games to the short attention span, button mashing, win at all cost instant gratification crowd. They do not care to build simulations of the sports, they just want it to be pretty enough to make good commercials.

There is a reason they don't make an NBA game.......There is competition in that field. Unfortunately for Football, Boxing, and Golf, they are really the only game in town.
