    Welterweight Tournament Need some help

I am going to create a Play Now tournament at the welterweight "catch weight" so I am going to include light welterweights, welter weights, and light middleweights.

I am going to seed all the boxers and I'll post the results. I am going to flip a coin to see which boxer I control. Matches will be fought on GOAT, 2 minute rounds, no saved by the bell or 3 kd rule. Ref damage awareness and damage at 10, accuracy and counter window at 0, stamina at 3 and everything else at 5. First & 2nd round matchups will be 10 rounders and fought at smaller venues, 3rd round and beyond will be 12 rounds and fought at major venues.

So Far the tournament will include the licensed boxers in the welterweight + Bradley plus the following
    Mike Jones
    Paul Williams
    Alfredo Angulo
    Cory Spinks
    Kermit Cintron
    Amir Khan
    Antonio Margarito
    Saul Alvarez
    Floyd Mayweather
    Juan M Marquez
    Felix Trinidad (Welterweight version)
    Aaron Pryor
    Andre Berto

If anyone could give me some help on what style they think best fits Amir Khan, Mike Jones, and Alfredo Angulo, that would be much appreciated.

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

Alright, this should be fun. I have a 26 man single elimination tournament.......

    Seedings
    1. Mayweather
    2. Pacman
    3. Hearns
    4. Leonard
    5. De La Hoya
    6. Pryor
    7. Chavez
    8. Bradley-Probably overrated, but we'll see
    9. Mosely
    10. Trinidad
    11. Judah
    12. Marquez
    13. Williams
    14. Cotto
    15. Berto
    16. Cintron
    17. Margarito
    18. Angulo
    19. Ortiz
    20. Saul Alvarez
    21. Mike Jones
    22. Cory Spinks
    23. Holt
    24. Khan
    25. Hatton
    26. Augustus

The brackets in a 26 man is a little wonky, so Its Cintron vs. Hatton and Cotto vs. Augustus in the 1st round "play in" fights......

    Place your bets.....

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

The tourney started out with a Bang as Cotto Flash Ko'd Augusts in the first match in round 2. Cintron scored an easy 10 round UD vs. Hatton. Angula followed up with a 10 round UD vs. Ortiz which he pulled away late. Alvarez destroyed Maragrito in 6, and Williams KO'd Spinks in 3.

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

The suprise fighter of the Tourny so far is Cintron. After easily winning a 10 rd UD over Hatton, Cintron squared off against a favored Tito Trinidad and won another easy 10 round decision. He caught Tito in the 6th with a perfect punch and then got on his bicycle in the 9th and the 10th to close out the victory, unlike De La Hoya v Trinidad, Cintron was so far ahead that Tito would have needed a KO to close the gap. He did stagger Cintron in the 9th, but the fight was never in doubt. Cintron landed 354/732 while he held Tito to 261/700 for 37%, thats basically a shutout in this game.......

Here's the punch in the 6th that carried the fight.......(don't know why the sound is so horrible, sounds like they are batyting a beach ball)

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

Cotto wins the rematch in a 10th round TKO over Mosely. Mosely got cut really bad in the 2nd round and was trying to hide the eye from the ref the rest of the fight, but he had to open up and throw late. The silly ref stopped it with 15 seconds left, but Cotto was up by 4 rounds on 2 cards and dead even on the 3rd so Cotto would have at least got the split decision. No Knockdowns in the fight.

In other Action, Jones suprisingly stopped Berto in 6. Holt TKO'd Marquez in 7 and Judah destroyed Khan with a Flash KO in 8. Khan had only won 1 round to that point.

            Sweet 16 is set.

            Mayweather vs. Angulo
            Cotto vs. Bradley

            Leonard vs. Paul Williams
            Holt vs. De La Hoya

On the other side of the bracket

            Pac vs. Saul Alvarez
            Cintron vs. Chavez

            Hearns vs. Mike Jones
            Judah vs. Pryor

Mayweather wins a Unanimous decision over Angulo 98-92 97-93 97-93

              Pac KO's Alvarez in 5.

Timothy Bradlley caught Cotto with an uppercut in the 4th Round and flash KO'd him. Didn't know Timmay had that type of power....

Cintron continued his tear through the tournament with a 99-90 UD over Chavez. Cintron only landed 225/666 for 33% but Chavez wanted to lay back and counter and only landed 173/437 for 39%. Cintron had him hurt a few times and devasted Chavez's left eye. In the 10th, Chavez could nno longer see the punches coming and was knocked down for the only knockdown of the fight......

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

Hearns won a split decision over Mike Jones in a great fight. I thought this would be a stroll in the park for Hearns, but Jones got to hearns twice. Hearns was completely out of gas in the final 3 rounds. Hearns 457/914 50%, Jones 432/838 for for 51%. Jones tasted the canvas once on a vicious right hook to the body.

Judges scores 93/96 Jones 95/94 Hearnes 96/93 Hearns.

De La Hoya flash KO'd Holt in the 2nd with a right uppercut. Judah somehow Flash KO'd Pryor in 4 with a right hook to the head.

Williams length and punch volume was too much for Sugar Ray and Williams wins on a 5th round TKO.

Down to the round of 8

                Mayweather vs. Bradley
                Williams vs. De La Hoya

On the other side of the Bracket
                Paquaio vs. Cintron
                Hearns vs. Judah

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

Wow, Mayweather vs. Paul Williams and after 12 grueling rounds it ends in a Majority Draw...112/112, 112/112, 113-111 Williams. Williams 528 for 1056 for 50%, PBF 400/633 62%, his counter punching was ridiculous.

So they had to do it again, once again, Williams was sucking air heading into the championship rounds and Mayweather gets a 12th round KO, PBF was up on the cards 1-5-102, 100-106, 106-101.

Hearns easily disposed of Pac who hust couln't find the range and Hearns was victorious in a 5th round KO.

Sets up an intriguing Championship between PBF and Hearns. PBF came inbto the tourney with the #1 seed and Hearns started with a #3.

Vegas has the slight odds on Hearns given his size, reach and activity.

Re: Welterweight Tournament Need some help

Its all over Hearns wins on a 12th round KO over Mayweather. Mayweather just couldn't overcome Hearns length and activity. Mayweaather lost every round. Hearns was staggered once and had a bad cut, but PBF couldn't close the show and ended up getting caught in the 12th round.

Fight of the tournament was Mosely v Cotto I and tied with Williams v Mayweather 1. Both ending in draws.

Hearns dominated the smaller Pac and Mayweather, but suprisingly Mike Jones gave him all he could handle in the round of 16, with Hearns scoring a controversial split decision.

KO of the tournament was Hearns right hook vs. Judah.

Bradley vs. Cotto also suprised the crowd with Bradleys flash KO.

The boxers I controlled went 8-15-2 over the tournament. Overall, I think the sliders played out well. It was alot of fun. I will hold a middleweight tournament in the upcoming weeks.

The smaller guys were definitely at a disadvantage and it wasvery hard for the inside fighters to really get inside and bang.

An observation from the fun standpoint is that I don't think it would be that much fun for fights to average 40-50 punches per round. Cintron fought Chavez and he threw 437 for the fight and honestly, it didn't seem like he threw at all. Cintron threw 666 punches in that fight and it was a very technical fight with connect rates at 39% for Chavez and 33 % for Cintron, it was probably the most realistic of the fights, but also the most boring and I am a huge boxing fan.

Those 2 draws in the tourney were fabulous fights as was the Hearns split decision v Mike Jones. They were incredible going into the championship rounds knowing that each punch landed may sway the judges in a very close fight.

The judging in restropect was very good. Take the PBF v Williams I fight. Williams outlanded Mayweater 528 to 400, both scored 2 knockdowns and the fight was a draw. Williams threw 1056 to Mayweathers 633. Mayweather was dead accurate on hois counters and the judges took that into consideration. It was nice to see that punch volume and landed punches were not the only factors for the judges.

The Mosely Cotto I fight had judges scores of 94-96, 97-93, and 9-95 in a fight that truly felt even and resulted in a draw. Nice to see a variety of scoring.

I wish there was fights that would reach the count of 10 on the 1st knockdown of the fight, I love the 1 punch KO, but there needs to be guys counted out the 1st time they fall. There has to be more variety of knockdowns as well as guys getting up at various points in the count. And there needs to be a stun state that exists when fighters get back up.

There also needs to be prolonged stun states where the ref jumps in and stops the fight due to a wobbled fighter.

I saw the stamina work properly for the most part with it set at 3 at least in regards on how the developers wanted it to work. I saw a few boxers punch themselves out early, but I didn't see the cumulated effects of body blows make much difference. I also think that it really depends on the boxers style instead of punches thrown. So in short, I think stamina needs an overhaul to punish boxers that throw too many missed power shots. I think stamina is the way it is to accomodate power punch spammers online more than it is desiigned to make a realistic 1st player experience.

It was rare to see a cut ABOVE the eye, I am not sure if I saw 1 in the tourney, but I have seen it before. There also needs to be bloody noses, I saw some cuts on the nose, but no blood from the nostrils.

I would also like to see guys 1 punch KO'd from a liver shot, but these need to be counst to 10 with a guy on his knee unable to catch his breath. I did see a couple knockdowns from body shots, but they rose back up.

Along those lines we need to see broken ribs, rare but possible.

Anyway, overall I am pretty happy with the action in the ring, I just wish I could have a great legacy mode to go along with it.

This tournament brought me back to my youth where I was writing stats down in a notebook, it was one of the funnest video game experiences I have had in a while despite the games flaws.

Great write up. sounds like it was fun. So the new patch ruined the gameplay in your opinion?

It was alot of fun and I was planning on doing a HW tourney next, Its on hold now.

It ruined the game in the sense that the 1 punch KO's are gone now as well as the damage seems nerfed.

I liked having 1 punch KO's and stoppages. Here you have the best fighters in the world with the best punching power, etc and I think its pretty realistic over the course of a large tournament you would see 3 or 4 1 punch KO's and a few stoppages.

All they really needed to do was adjust the stamina, and punch accuracy a little bit and everything would have been fine.
