Re: In case you missed it....Kirkland vs Ishida

I was shocked when I saw this over the weekend.

I wonder if Kirkland fighting 3 times in 6 weeks is what did him in?
Like Max mentioned, Kirkland's had a couple fights where he took some major shots from hard hitters and didn't even flinch.
    How does this happen?

I'll be interested to read more about what's going on. And I wonder if Ann Wolfe was smiling or crying at home.

I wonder if he just didn't take this fight serious and expected to KO him early. Ishida looked surprised when he initially knocked him down and for whatever reason, Kirkland couldn't come back from it. But what the heck do I know.

That was a great night of fights though. Enjoyed it.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

thanks for this post. great fight. Flash knockdown then never got his legs back.

See even weak punchers have a chance for the KO. unless your name is Malignagi

Poor Kirkland. Now he gotta move outta town. No way you can go back home after being beat by Ryu.

That wasn't Ryu. That was one of the guys riding by in the background on a bike.

The word on the street is that Kirkland was not getting along with Kenny Adams. The rumors are that Adams could not keep up with the work rate Kirkland wanted to establish. The other thing I heard was that Kirland had to fast to get to 160. THey said he was wearing a rubber/plastic suit to shed pounds and his performance began to fade after this.

@Shaun: that Ryu comment about the bicycles was HILARIOUS!!!

I think you are right, too much too soon. Before he got too punch drunk, JTaylor had a similar issue. Kirkland needs to get to 168lb division.

Yeah, Ishiida wasn't anything special, but he was precise and when you turn someone's jaw around like that they are going down, period.

Between Ghost and Ishiida it got me excited to do a legacy with a max height/weight featherweight with a maxed jab and nothing else over a six. I have boosts, but I won't use the one for power and I will train at Big Bear so my power isn't being built up too high. Looks like I'm fighting a lot of 12 rounders.

Yeah, the guys on the bikes. Watch them, they are staring at the junk in Chun Li's trunk, I promise, lol.

I think JT is a little different but there are some similarities. I think they rushed JT just like the rushed Kirkland but it was a little different.

JT was rushed into his fights with BHop and Winky, he was never the same after the Winky fight (always tentative) and BHop would have knocked him out if he did not TOTALLY turn around when he was hurt (prevented BHop from following up). Looking back, the worst thing that happened to JT was getting the belt so early in his career. If he had lost he would have been able to go back and correct so many of his flaws and work on pacing himself (which he still could not do at 168), too bad The Ghost ruined him (Froch finished him off).

Kirkland was brought along properly before his incarceration and he was rushed afterwards. You don't go from being in jail for 2 years to fighting 3 times in 5 weeks. Your body has to be able to heal from the dehydration AND they should have looked at Ishida closely, Ishida has NEVER been KO'd!!! Why would you put James in there with somebody like that, he isnot ready for a 12 round fight, he would have lost anyway. Also, he got hit with 2 shots that were not that hard (the first 2 knockdowns) and one really good shot (the last knockdown) but his central nervous system just could not take the hits.

Golden Boy has HORRIBLE matchmakers, they did the same thing with Victor Ortiz. If you have a guy who is known in the gyms as, "not reacting well to being hit." Why do you put him in with Maidana??? Ishida went the distance in his last 5-6 fights, his last loss was close and in the hometown of the winner, so he prob got the "Glen Johnson" treatment (should have won). These things are as obvious as the first Lamon Brester vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight (I won $250) in that Lamon could punch, he had never been stopped and at the time Wlad had stamina issues.

Sorry for the rant but I have been watching involved with boxing for most of my life and this stuff just irritates me.
