    Re: Floyd Mayweather is back!

Good fighter, might be a decent fight. Ortiz moved up to welter from junior welter and handed Andre Berto his first loss and Berto handed him his belt.

Ortiz is the WBC Welterweight champion, not Middleweight Championship. Floyd's not going to fight a middleweight.

I hope this is a tune up fight as well. I could honestly see this being one and if floyd were to win this fight and end up fighting pacquiao, I could see that being his last fight.

In my opinion I hope I am dead wrong is that Ortiz is cashing out. I would not be surprised after the beating he will sustain from Mayweather that he just retires, acts in small roles in movies, and just live quietly back in Kansas counting his money.

I wouldn't be surprised by that at all either.
We could be seeing another Pac-Clottey fight in the works.
I think Ortiz will give it his all in the first few rounds. The minute he sees he can't catch Mayweather, he'll preserve himself to last 12 rounds and call it a career.
I don't see him moving up to 154 and there's nowhere for him to go at 147. This could be it for him.

Either way, I'm still ticked we haven't seen Pacquio-Mayweather. They should have fought instead of Mayweather-Mosley.

That's when both were sharp and in their primes.

Pacquio didn't look as sharp vs Mosley, and Mayweather's 34 and only fought 3 times since 2007.
If they ever do fight, it'll probably be when one, or both, have been past their primes and the result won't be what it should have been.

I do not thing we will see Pac - Clottey because Mayweather doe snot throw as many punches. what I will say is that this will be a good fight for Floyd and Victor has some pop in his punches. I see this fight looking like a mixture of the Gatti/Corrales fights in that Ortiz is a brave heavy puncher with decent speed but a southpaw and I think he could hurt Floyd if he lands a good shot.

I do not think this is it for Floyd, he has to pay taxes on all of those bets he won (anything over 3K I think???). What people have to realize and I do not know if anyone has said this, what shot is Victor WIDE open for????

The straight right and that just happens to be Floyd's best punch. Floyd will not miss the countering opportunities that Berto missed. If Ortiz keeps throwing shots I think he will get stopped around the 10th round. But it should be a good fight.

I also think that they will both be out of their [rime when/if Pac and May fight each other. I also agree that Pac is slowing down, his punch output is dropping and he was reaching A LOT in the Mosley. I don't know if the reaching was because Pac knew that Shane was no threat but he cannot do that against Floyd, that would be a recipe for disaster.

                    Re: Mayweather-Ortiz Sept 16th

I just watched the Ortiz/Berto fight.

PBF/Ortiz will be much like PBF/Gatti. Ortiz is too open for the counterpunch. He leads with his head down (in front/forward).

I say PBF by TKO (referee stoppage) in the 9th.

I expect PBF to perform surgery and pick Ortiz apart. This is probably going to be more one-sided than I initially thought.

I agree with you the only MAJOR difference is that Floyd does not throw as many punches AND Ortiz is faster than Gatti was. I thought Ortiz was taller BUT I was wrong so his size will not come into play. I think his southpaw stance will cause some problems, we shall see.

I agree, this will be an action fight like the Corley fight. Floyd's probably not going to be afraid of Ortiz power so he will likely stand in there & trade for a few rounds before getting a late stoppage. I like this fight & it's good for boxing.

                          Re: Mayweather-Ortiz Sept 16th

I had never seen Ortiz fight before. I just watched highlights of the Berto fight. The thing I kept saying to my self was, "If Manny Pacquiao carried his hands lower, was slower, and had no balance while throwing, he'd be Ortiz." Obviously they are both southpaws, but their delivery is also eerily similar. They both open up their shoulders completely when they throw. Big difference is that Manny gets his shoulders closed up faster and keeps his gloves up. Those who suggested this is a tune up, or more accurately a litmus test, could be right. I don't think you could pick a more similar fighter that isn't dangerous enough to win.

I do disagree with those who suggest that PBF can get a stoppage. At this point in his career, I don't think he could get a stoppage against a guy as big as Ortiz unless: (1) The corner throws in the towel because Floyd is just peppering him and he can't or won't throw back; (2) Ortiz cuts or swells; (3) An out of gas Ortiz gets caught with the perfect punch late in the fight, and can't get up more from fatigue than injury.

This is what I think will happen with the ref stopping it.
