Re: Rhodes vs Alvarez
Obviously I'm late to comment, but Alvarez dominated him and stopped him in the 12th.
Rhodes deserves a big thumbs-up for his heart. He refused to wilt and lay down. But he took a beating for his troubles.
Alvarez threw some dandy combo's and really worked Rhode's body well.
Rhodes said afterward that he knew Canelo was a strong puncher, but he really didn't anticipate him hitting that hard.
The few times that Rhodes was able to connect with a clean shot, it looked like Alvarez was shoeing away a fly. This kid appears to have a very strong chin.
After the fight, they spoke about Alvarez possibly taking on Chavez Jr.
I don't want that. I'd rather he take on Cotto or another 154 guy. Clean that division out first.
Eventually, he'll grow to be a true middleweight, but at this time, if he jumps up to 160, he would eventually have to fight Martinez and he's not close to being ready for that.
Still, this kid is super exciting. He reminds me so much of Chavez Sr. He just comes and comes and it looks like you'd need a sledgehammer to hurt him.
Can't wait for his next fight.
On the undercard, Broner destroyed Litzau after catching him late in the first round. Both guys started tentatively but then Broner caught him with a big shot against the ropes. He followed up with some serious heat and put a beauty of a right directly on Litzau's chin. Nighty-night.
Roy Jones was probably kicking himself for putting his boy in with Broner.Comment

Re: Rhodes vs Alvarez
Alvarez, after watching him for the first time, he reminded me very much of Andre Berto. It looks like he has very fast hands, flat footed, and pretty big upper body. I think he commits more to the body and his combos more so than Berto. I like to see him take more fights similar to Rhodes and continues to fight often.
Next fights I like to see for him are Cintron, Angulo, Berto (catchweight), Chavez Jr. (catchweight), and then go after the title holders. If he can unify 154, then take a crack at the MW champ, whomever it may be.

Re: Rhodes vs Alvarez
Alvarez seems to be the real deal, but I'm afraid we won't find out how good he really is for about another year or maybe more. Rhodes was a formidable opponent, but nowhere near some of the fighters' levels he will soon be fighting.
I'm not sure why someone said they don't want to see him fight Chavez Jr...as a handler or promoter I can see why, because you want to get as much money as possible before taking on the top guys and potentially losing, but as a fan? Come on, everyone wants to see that.Comment

But I'd still love to watch that fight. I think Canelo destroys him.Comment
