A Humbled Floyd..? Are you buying it?

Who is this character and are you buying into it? Do you also think he'll turn it up and snap back to his old self come fight night?

Is he ok? He didn't even sound like the old Floyd.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

He DID sound a little punchy trying to get his words out there, but I'm sure it's nothing. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I don't care who you are, or what kind of personality you have, nobody on this planet could be under the kind of poop-storm that Floyd is and not have it affect you.

This guy has multiple lawsuits and charges pending against him. Between the IRS, his children's mother, security guards, beaten fans and Pacquio, he'll be in court for the next 5 years.

I really don't get the impression that Floyd wants to continue boxing.
If he still had $100M in the bank and none of these issues, he'd still be retired.

But he needs the money and with Pacquio winning his lawsuit, he'll eventually give in and do it.

Yeah...but he's not even being rude, stuck up or crass.

A guy who needs the money would be up there posturing, calling Ortiz a bum and bad mouthing Pac and his camp.

FWIW...I just saw a Zab Judah fight (don't know if it was live) and this guy Zab was completely different from the dumb, knucklehead, ignorant fool that he's always been his whole career. He (says he) gave his life to God and he honestly sounds completely different.

PBF previously couldn't get through an interview talking about his money, fight game, legacy, etc.

Is this a new Floyd or what.

To say he's punchy is not accurate because he's one of the best defensive boxers ever and probably hasn't taken too many hard shots his whole career.

What gives? Or is it just a temporary show?

But that's why I think he's being humbled. He's fighting all these legal battles and I think it's taken a bit of starch out of him.
Maybe Floyd's tired of the drama and keeping up this facade. I really don't think he's an a'hole.
He never acted like one until his fight with DLH. He knew it would sell better if he acted like a punk. It took off from there and I think Floyd enjoyed being the badguy.
But now it's kind of escalated beyond just playing a character on TV.
And with all this stuff going on with his life, I think it takes too much energy to constantly act like an arrogant prick.

Another thought is that perhaps Floyd knows this fight with Ortiz is going to be tougher than he thought? And maybe he doesn't want to give any more ammo to his detractors if he has a hard victory (or even loses)?

                  You may be right.

Noticing that he's saying he's spending more time with his kids. Possibly having the courts take away your kids could do alot to a man.

He might be on the phone with his lawyers every day dealing with crap...and his uncle too.

                  Might've worn him out.

"I've been playing a lot of basketball.." I love that response.

I used to really dislike Mayweather because I felt he was far too overrated, and then I'd watch him fight guys to where I was hoping they'd take him out, but he wouldn't let that happen. He's now one of the most enjoyable guys to watch to me because he has patience, dictates the pace and is always in the best condition.

I think he will approach this fight with absolute seriousness and again show how dominant he can be. As far as his attitude here I felt he was thinking before speaking. Usually he's quick to speak and interrupts and gets all into the talkback but here he's a lot more mellow and seems to be concentrated.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Yeah, his last interview with Kenny wasn't so cordial, hahaha!
I've mellowed to Floyd recently too. I think he's right to try and get steroids out of the sport. This sport above all the others can't afford this kind of cheating. People's lives are at stake.
I've also come to enjoy his defensive genius. The way he rolls and jukes out of danger while firing of counters like a coiled snake is a thing of beauty.

Still, I want to see him continue to fight the best after Ortiz. If he can't get Pac, then perhaps Alvarez at 150?
Floyd's not getting any younger, so I want to see him fight 2 or 3 more times and against the world's best.
Even now, if Pac and him were to fight next year, I don't think you could consider him as a 'prime Floyd'. I doubt we could say the same for Pac either. But it is what it is.

he's not he hasn't fought in a year. All the legal trouble . you have to be humble when you been humbled.

Plus something interesting I saw on twitter was a comment from his dad . I think something happened that not completely in the media

                          What did he say?

                          EDIT: Never mind. Found it:

"I'm just saying this right here, my concern is for my son's protection. My concern is for my son's life, that's why. If my son's fighting that little man, I'm concerned about my son's life. That's what I'm telling you."

To me this is nothing but posturing. They're doing a good job building this fight up.
But it really needs no extra flames. Not one more word could be said about these 2 fighters and PPV numbers would still be groundbreaking.

naw that wasn't the one he was talking bout floyd and being sharp and his layoff has caused him not to be sharp. something to that effect. I didn't think too much bout till I saw this thread.

I agree I think that he actually got accustomed to playing the bad guy to sell fights..On top of that no doubt he realizes that he is an older fighter and his career is coming to an end..guaranteed his PR guy instructed him to start being humble and become likeable to have a career after boxing(endorsements etc)..much like George Foreman did...I truly hope he gets this Pac fight done quickly as he is a fighter who relies on reflexes and quickness which IMO has already started to erode..father time is bound to catch up to him he needs to make this money and let it go...I thing the caveat for Floyd is that he sees that Pac is starting to fade as well..Ortiz will be a tough fight because of his strength, youth. and th e fact that floyd will be rusty....
