judges of williams - lara fight suspended

    as per ESPN:

The fallout from the controversial decision in the Paul Williams-Erislandy Lara junior middleweight bout continued Wednesday when the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board suspended the three judges who worked the 12-round bout.

time for some changes in boxing. they need to put the judges each in a secluded room away from the influence of the crowd and let them watch the fight from a nice HD monitor. this way they all see the same fight.

Didn't read the article...but yes...the judges somehow have to be secluded. I mean...they need to be close to the action to 'feel' the impact of the blows, etc.

But...I had started years ago to watch boxing matches in Mute so I couldn't hear the bias come from HBO announcers. Although it sucks, I can sit home and score more effectively. (Big fights I do listen to the commentary...it's a shame I have to mute my TV).

But...I for one think Boxing, as a sport, is done.

If put judges in booth away from the fight so much can be missed like the sound of a connecting

Putting them in a booth, or with ear-plugs won't do anything.
90% of the time there's a widely disputed decision it has to do with the judges being bribed.
Or the fact that they were given a license to judge for the wrong reasons. (ie. $$$).

When all 3 judges see it for Williams, it's not one person making a mistake, it's 3 people who are owned by someone who also owns Williams.

If every fighter was owned by the same manager or promoter you would never see these kinds of decisions.

That's why some people have turned their back on the sport.
I know I didn't want to watch many fights after Holyfield-Lewis I and DLH-Mosley II.

it has always been this way in boxing and other judged sports. It's called favortism. Paul Williams is a money maker and a known boxer. I have seen these type of decisions for years going back to Muhammad Ali days.

            i hear you.

this fight rings of the james kinchen - tommy hearns fight.. hearns got beat bad. that decision was complete garbage and has to be one of the worst jobs done by "the judges".....this fight is up there though.

shak, the judges are supposed to judge a fight by what they see. i think giving them all the same view of the fight would help, as long as they are not on the take)

I know what you are saying. I have been a part of the sport of boxing in and outside the ring well over 24 years. I also have a friend who's a amateur and professional official of boxing and MMA who's a member on this site.
The criteria for judging can be complicated, but the judging for some of these fights are ridiculous. When I boxed I received gift decisions because of being known in the amateurs.

The judges were definetly bought. It wasn't just 1 or 2 of them that scored it wrong, but all 3 did. Someone in the Paul williams corner bought that decision because they couldn't afford 2 straight losses and basically the end of his championship contender status, and the loss of alot more money than it takes to buy judges. Putting them in a booth or something wouldn't help, the crowd knew Williams lost and reacted as such, and it obviously had no effect on judges' the scoring.
