Just heard on ESPN he's at the hospital with a "short time" to live from having struggled with liver cancer. Sad news.

    RIP

This news nearly brought me to tears.

I have an uncle who is also battling cancer at this time so i know how tough this is for Joe's family.

There are not enough words in the English dictionary for me to express how much respect and admiration i have for smokin Joe. I met him a few years ago at the Graden in NYC and always considered it a privelege and a great honor just to have shaken his hand.

My prayers are with Joe and his family, keep fighting champ.

Sad news indeed. I read the man's biography and loved it. I became a big fan ever since.

My thoughts and prayers are for Joe and his family. I hope he recovers. If not, I hope he can pass on in peace and without pain.

Does Joe bring back the memories. The hype surrounding his first fight with Ali was huge. If you didn't see the close circuit broadcast you couldn't see the fight for another three years. My dad was not a boxing fan and didn't like Ali so my brother and I were out of luck. I remember the close circuit broadcast at the Baltimore Civic Center (35 miles away) was $15 apiece, a lot of money in those days.

                      Good luck Joe.

Loved Joe. My favorite boxer when I used to care about the sport. Always wanted him to shut-up Ali's brash mouth at the time and he got to do it on one occasion. Definitely did more with his abilities than most others did in the sport.
