The problem isn't EA in general for fight night, it's EA Canada. EA chicago made the first 3 fight nights, and IMO for it's time FN3 was amazing. Still my favorite. Fluid punching, counters worked perfectly(they can be kind of off in the new FN games) and better knockdown animations(think it had ragdoll physics?) and get up animations. I think they should of built on that system instead of changing it completely. They could of just improved it/made it a bit more realistic and got rid of some of the problems from it such as the parry freezing your guy for a while. And maybe improve the collision detection(which ironically is better than fight night champions, no forced misses). What's crazy is the previous fight nights were much much more customizable for legacy mode. While in FNC they decided to focus on some cliche champion mode, why are we going backwards here?

We need something totally different that incorporates footwork, and an intuitive blocking system.Comment

^^^ Yeah, clearly the wrong feedback. They caved to the pleadings of the button mashers because everything they did was slanted towards the casual and not the true boxing fan. I get that they're trying to sell games and I never thought the game was great either, but the early version of the game, although not perfect, was a lot more enjoyable than the latter versions. Also, how do you have a game that has sliders that don't work and as Phobia pointed out early? It just seems like, just like it is with Madden, that EA's interpretation of what "real" is, always seems to be distorted.

You're right, there are button mashers and stick flickers. In this game the guys that flick the sticks have an advantage over button mashers.Comment

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
If there is another one, I don't hold much faith in it. I don't know how you could screw up what was working so fantastic at community day. While the punch accuracy was extremely low and stamina drainage was really high. It made getting into exchanges feel so much more organic. Now fighters did gas way to fast due to the punch accuracy. But this is what was so perfect about it, leave punch accuracy how it was and just slightly start tweaking stamina up little more till you get a accurate representation of real boxing exchanges.
I loved meeting the dev crew and they all were real passionate about the game and sport of boxing. So it confused me even more when tuners start completely messing the game up. I couldn't understand it. Then I was one of the first to find the sliders issue, I found they were not working before the game even released. The response and how it was handled is what left a horrible taste in my mouth. My posts about it were deleted and I was basically told to quit talking about it. I informed steve about the slider issue and a front page story of it hit OS, then had to tell Steve to pull it down due to them asking me to quit talking about it. So I felt like it was deceiving people to a degree.
Game released March 1st, I found these issues about a week before the game was released.
Welcome to EA Forums, where you can chat about games with other players, help each other out, share feedback, and report issues you’re having with EA games.
So with all that said, I HOPE (Fingers crossed) that brizzo & them can get it together to create a boxing game worthy of representing the real sport.
I have a feeling when these community day events come up, the devs alter the game so that it fits the desires of the hardcore that have been invited to Vancouver.
The community members leave, pump up the game to the 11th degree, and then they dumb the game down for casual fans on release.
It's a hard fact to swallow, but I've learned that EA, SCEA, 2K, Konami, etc. do not base their games on members at OS or other hardcore sports fanatics.
They know we'll buy games no matter what because we're so hardcore. They want casual's money. They make up 90% of the consumers out there so if Johnny Fratboy hates how he can't throw 2000 punches a round without getting gassed, you better believe EA is going to listen to them.
I wish a company had the b@ll$ to give their developers free reign to design a sports game the way THEY'D want it to play.
PES, MLK2K, High-heat all did this and they were/have been great successes.
I fear we'll never see a boxing game that truly quenches the thirst of the hardcore fan.
Heck, it's barely happened in any of the other sports as well. If EA can't get FOOTBALL right, then for sure we're not going to get it in the ring either.Comment

I've heard the same things said about EA's other sports games.

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
My bad. I didn't mean it in its technical term of "button masher" but more as a way to describe someone who just wants to grab the controller and play and could care less about the realism of the game. Casual player is probably the better and more appropriate term to use.Last edited by iLLmatic; 02-09-2012, 12:43 PM.Comment

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
They're better than EA but they're still guilty of the same thing whether you like it or not. They did use things like legends mode to attract casuals. And there are a bunch of recurring problems with nba 2k that they haven't fixed but that's another story. . .

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
I think EA underestimates how fun realism could be. 1st, we watch sports all the time. Some idolize athletes. Some fantacize about doing what these athletes do. Hell, we're buying video games to do just that. What they do is already amazing. Not sure why there's a need to push that to unrealistic levels.
IMO, EA needs to think with more balance. For every improvement, there needs to be a counter improvment. For example, they made it much easier to punch this year. I loved it! But where's the defensive counterpart? Why not pay the same attention to the footwork, angles, upper body movement & blocking. Instead we got forced misses.
Not sure if I answered the original question. I loved the tweaked punch mechanics. As usual, EA's graphics are top nothch. I liked the additon of glancing blows. Story mode was cool but needed to be part of career mode.Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?Comment

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
Stamina penalties not being prominent enough on sniffed punches was the true problem. Make people conserve their energy. If the go balls to the wall in the 1st 3 rounds and don't get a finish, well the should be easy pickins in the mid to late rounds.Comment

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....
Tough one. I hadn't played online in over 6 months until a couple of weeks ago. I've enjoyed myself somewhat, and there is still plenty of online action available.
One thing about online that I use to hate is the body spammers. I use Pavlik 90% of the time so I'm limited, but good body spammers are tough to beat. They are a challenge though.
THey should reduce the accuracy of body punches from 25%-50% depending how good a body puncher you are. If they had Mike Mccallum even he would be reduced by 20%.Comment
