I pretty much enjoy the game. I have a good time with it. I'm able to box with boxers effectively and I'm able to brawl with brawlers effectively. I LOVE the stick control. I like all of the states. I wish the "stun" state happened a bit more. I had a MAJOR problem with the stamina at the beginning but with the last tuner set I think that they got stamina right. LOVED champion mode. I've seen a lot of complaints but honestly, I just didn't think that gameplay was bad at all, in fact, I really enjoy the game to this day. I don't really play a ton online so maybe online play is where a lot of the problems rear their heads.

I wish the jab was just a TAD bit more effective. I feel like jab ratings played apart but I want the jab to be able to stop someone in their tracks in a way. The jab was better done this year though. I thought the KO get up minigame was dumb. Honestly, I'd rather get up based on ratings or have a different game. Collision detection needs a little bit of work. Once again, there's no real in-fighting and clinching seems completely pointless. The biggest gripe: this is the second year that legacy mode has been absolute garbage. It's a disgrace to offline players. A disgrace.

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....

After reading a few posts in this thread, I've come to a few conclusions.

      1. I think a lot of the issues you guys are having, they probably have more to do with your skill level, and less with the game itself. Out the box, the game plays great. It's actually possible to use defensive tactics, so long as you use everything within your arsenal. In other words, you can't just stand and block all day, and call that defense. You can't just run around the ring all day, and call that "outside fighting". It's all about using the ring as a playground, not a track field. Side step, weave, all of it. Even after the patches and tuner sets, it's still possible to have a defensive fight, albiet to a lesser extent.

      2. I never found stamina an issue until the update and tuner patches. Gradual losses in stamina are better than immediate, exaggerated losses. I never lost to anyone who used body spamming, or threw an insane amount of punches, as they were always gassed by round 5 or 6. Side stepping, weaving, and timed blocking will give you KO's every time.

      3. After the patch and tuner updates, the slider have become functional (here and there). Use them.

One thing I will agree with, however, is that the patch and tuner updates, this game has become almost unplayable. Don't get me wrong, I'm still unbeaten (online or otherwise)... but my strategy is unusable, now. Stamina has become so much of an issue, it's not even funny. Losing stamina just by side stepping and making quick dashes backward? Forced misses? No bueno. And to think, that patch came out 3 months ago. It's terrible, if you ask me...

I got a few fights in this weekend at a friends house. He has no internet so the game hadn't been updated.

I agree that putting the ear muffs on shouldn't be the end all of defense. It's defending with your feet I have a problem with. The step, step footwork is just too slow, especially when the boxers are close. When my friend wanted to stalk me, there was little I could do other than brawl. Escaping left or right is too slow. Grabbing doesn't work most of the time. Other than putting my hands up and weaving a bit, I felt I had no option other than to slug back. Trying to move my feet often resulted in this dance I couldn't get out of.

If EA is scared of users skipping around all fight, I understand, but I haven't seen a fighter win a fight that way IRL. As long as that's represented properly, improving the footwork should be EA's #1 priority. It will give us a desparately needed defensive option and will negate the need for things like forced misses.

Another aspect of footwork that needs to be addressed is the slidding that keeps boxers facing each other. Stationary boxers should be forced to move their feet to face a moving opponent. Then EA can really separate boxers via foot speed and allow angles to be created by quicker boxers that are controlled by skilled users.
Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?

          BezO,

I agree with the aspect of footwork. It is damn sluggish when you're trapped in a corner, and it takes A FULL SECOND to get out of the trap. I don't have much trouble with it, though, as a good side step or two makes whoever's playing me back off.

Another gripe I have is the AI. My fighter is 60-0 in Legacy Mode, and that's mainly because all the fights are the same. Even though there's a difference in strategy, I have yet to see any of the R.E.A.L AI EA brags about all the time. You would think after a few rounds of side-stepping, the CPU would catch on... but, nope! It's especially terrible with brawler types, because they don't defend themselves at all, and they throw punches from a longer distance, regardless of reach, or lack thereof...

This is the biggest issue facing the CPU AI in FN.
When I had the Victorious Boxers games, it was amazing how different certain fighters felt over others.
You knew full well when you were fighting a counter-puncher who liked to stay in the pocket. Just like you could see a huge difference between dancers and brawlers.
And each had specific arsenals too.
I remember fighting a beast who could had a sledgehammer of a right-hand and an iron jaw.
I could hit that SOB so many times and he'd keep coming. But I had to always be aware of his right hand.
Nobody's been able to duplicate that yet.

I really hope that there's a FNC2. The engine is pretty solid, they just need to make some tweaks and give us a deeper legacy mode.
Give fighters back-peddling ratings so certain guys won't lose stamina as quickly as others while moving backwards.
Make styles obvious, make the jab useful and ensure that a well-connected cross, from a power puncher means something.

I've been back and forth with this game and for the most part come down pretty hard on it. I still play it. I do not enjoy the offline because it's extremely one dimensional. Right now I take OWC for what it is and am focusing on casually playing to get my fighter ranked. It's actually enjoyable for me.

I did pick up UFC Undisputed and as a simulation fighting game it sheds light on how FNC lacks in key areas. Undisputed does a great job with stamina. If you throw fists like a wild man you will be gassed and be extremely susceptible to being knocked out. You can be very irresponsible in FNC and not be held accountable. Another thing they do well is fighter movement. FNC has a very 2 dimensional feel to the footwork, where in Undisputed you can step back, time your weave properly and even pick up your speed on your feet.

I guess we ran FNC through the wash multiple times by now. We can only hope they build on things and pay attention to even what EA did with the MMA game.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I've never played EA's MMA game, but I've heard it does a lot of things right. I'm hoping that over the past 18 months the devs will be able to use that for FNC2 (if there even is one).

I used to think that till the dunk fest of 2K12 came out and the other games before that having their issues.

If you plan to play online , no. If not then, maybe no.

I read you guys talking about UFC3. If that's an EA game I wouldn't trust it. A few months from now it'll probably turn into another game.

Just popped this game in to see if I was too hard on it. Nope, I wasn't hard enough. Stamina is the key.

I just got knocked out (2nd round KO, I suck at getting up) by a person who just threw wild punches the whole time. In just over a round he threw 265 punches... due to poor footwork I had to stand there and try to weave/block as much as I could. Meanwhile, I picked my spots and even looking at the stats it looks like I was picking him apart.

I don't get this game at all -- the better boxer lost to video game tactics, smh...

Was there any truth to 2k coming out with a boxing game? I think the Fight Night series still has the potential to do great things, but I'm not confident they can get it done.

Another bummer with this game is latency can totally ruin your game. What I mean by latency (as opposed to lag as the public knows it) is the game looks as if everything is fine. No stuttering going on, not even a delay in your controls that you can see. However what you're seeing on your screen is not what is really happening. So when the guy is moving forward on you and is 6 feet away in actuality he's 2 feet away and ready to pounce.

Fight night mite some competition to raise the bar in the boxing field... but we'lll see
