This is not a weekend game...your not gonna get all the way through it fast.....and it does not reward players that go into fights and throw punches like steroid/meth junkies.
You actually have to BOX.....intelligently and strategically...otherwise like in real life...your not gonna go anywhere.
Go ahead...go into a fight and try to throw a bunch of head shots in a row.....basically the sensor and game will detect you are a moron and half your punches won't even register.
Below are gonna be some spoilers...if you do not want that don't read on......but for those who don't want the spoilers all I have to say is...stick with the game...do training mode everyday on the calender.....and learn how a real boxer fights...which is mostly dodging, blocking, and lower body shots. The five lightning fast headshots your dreaming of doing are for the movies....so don't bother in this game.
Okay.....spoilers here..
First off I didn't see one reviewer go into depth on the training mode of the game...simply put it's awesome.......yeah at first it stinks...why...because you suck and so does the boxer your using.
You get better tho and get this...every five days.....RL days....not MMO 3 hr. days......you get points added to your three attributes...Strength, Agility, and Deterity......and it really starts to make a difference everywhere you use your first chosen boxer.
The RL day training mode...btw...RL is real life......only last 20 days....but by the end of that 20 days the boxer you used in training mode is a monster and you get to use him in exhibition mode to your hearts content.....he will be listed under the custom boxers when you select your fighter in exhibition fights.
This is how I know none of these reviewers thoroughly tested this game because they never went all the way through the training.....they probably had a weekend to test it and had to have something on their bosses desk on Monday LOL
HINT:the first time you do training mode you get to pick from one of 5 boxers.....I am quite sure the boxer you use on day one is who all the attribute increases go to by default...even if you used a new boxer each day...I think this was a fail safe to keep people who didn't know from putting attribute points on a bunch of different boxers and having 5 gimpy custom boxers to choose from instead of one monster.
My boxer is The Dragon...all the custom boxers start with 50 in each attribute...by the time I was done with the 20 day training...my boxer...The Dragon...had almost mid 80's in every stat.
Don't let this fool you...especially if you put exhibition on hard mode.....the fights gonna be a challenge.
Now for story mode.....it was really fun...training mode does not effect your story mode character but the whole mode is fun and very challenging to the end. In story mode for each fight you win you get stat point increases.
The only thing I didn't like about story mode is it's only 12 fights....but they are some really great fights....very challenging....make your heart beat......and exciting.
At the end of the 12 fights...and if you lose you get to try again as you have to win every fight to get to the end....your boxer has max stat points from there on out....which is 60 each stat, and you can go back and redo any fight.
The flashback fights are cool, only one round each but you always have to overcome some kind of handicap to win the situation.
Once you beat the game you then have access to at least 30-40 different boxers and 8-10 venues to use at your will in exhibition mode.
Now for the things you need to adjust to or just plain stink.
Don't even get hung up on the tutorial mode just like the book says....mostly because the game hardly ever will register three like punches in a row.....if it did you got as much lucky as you were skillful.
Right hooks are pure luck......the game is completely bugged on doing these.
The tutorial mode claims there are lower body hooks...there aren't...there are body shot undercuts, jabs, and straights.
Go punch the heavy bag all day if you want...you'll never throw a lower body hook....and rarely throw an upper right hook....if you do it will be by accident and not what you intended.
Sometimes the game will throw two really quick punches in a row breaking your EXCELLENT streaking in training.
YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GET YOUR NUNCHUK wireless to really enjoy this game unless your a masochist and like hitting yourself in the face with the wire all day.
Make sure your heels actually hit the Wii balance board each time when you do Jump Rope...it works fine... the people who claim it doesn't are uncoordinated.
All in all this is a great game.....box like a REAL boxer....throw mostly lower body shots, and dodge and block A LOT and you will be a champ.
And also WATCH YOUR STAMINA bar....and don't waste your special attacks.....wait until the fighter is vulnerable or only use if your in a desperate situation....like you both have low health and the next punch wins.
Pay attention to everything I said here and you'll enjoy this game.......and throw the rest of the reviews you read in the trash....because that is what they are.
