Tough Tuneup For Lucian Bute November 3rd

I don't know if I'd take on this guy just after getting my face smacked in by Carl Froch.

    Denis Grachev

This guy's an animal. I saw him lose every round to Ismayl Sillakh without seeming like he was losing those rounds. He even got flashed knockdowned in third and it didn't even faze him. Finally the inevitable happened and he creamed a very good Top Ten lightheavy in the 8th round. Grachez is a kick boxing champ and even at the catch weight of 170 I'm not sure Bute can win.

PS: I know he can't kick Bute.

It must be me, but I'm really looking forward to this fight. MIght be Bute's last stand and it could put Grachez into some big bouts.

A crossroads fight for both. Gracev could really arrive as a contender with a win, and Bute could be put away as an overrated, overprotected fraud with a loss.

For the record: I firmly believe the latter. Bute is a product of careful matchmaking and the huge home canvas advantage of fighting in Montreal. He would have been DESTROYED in the Super 6.

I think you may be right, but I've been wrong before.

I just think this guy is many times tougher than Bute. We'll see.

Unfortunately it looks like this one will not to televised in the states.

Only Wealth TV out of Montreal.

OK, Wealth TV is a streaming service (think poor man's Netflix). I signed up for the free 30 day trial and the 99 cents per month option ( or $9.99 per year). Easy setup with my Sony streaming player.

EDIT: Not a terrible lineup of upcoming fights.

Grachez fought better than a 9-1 underdog losing on the cards 115-113, 116-112, 118-111. Bute's crisper punches and better countering carried the night but Grachez was in the fight deep into the fight.

One thing about Grachez he keeps on coming.

Great night of boxing from top to bottom. I love the crowd in Montreal. I had the main event 6-5-1 for Bute in a close bout. Grachev is a beast and I can't wait to watch him again. In the rematch against Froch, I see another KO loss for Bute. He does not handle pressure fighters well and retreats to the ropes way to often.

I had it 7-5 for Bute. He closed it nicely in the 12th.

I also see Frosh beating him rather easily.

Well said. Bute has a superb uppercut, but his record has been inflated against inferior competition and home-canvas advantage in Montreal.

Tested, elite fighters like Froch and Ward will DESTROY him.

Wow, you said it. Bute has an unbelievably quick and deadly uppercut. A credit to Grachez for absorbing that and other punches.
