Agree 100 percent. Chavez should fight at 175, and he still would be a sizable light heavyweight, probably as big -- if not bigger -- than Kovalev or Ward. He's a big guy. Draining him to 164.5 is ridiculous.

agree as well....he should have just had gilberto ramirez (undefeated wbo super middleweight champion and from mexico) go down to 164.5, at least it would have made more sense but ramirez even said he was too big to cut down to that catch weight. so junior (a light heavyweight) even agreeing to this fight seems absurd, but says one of two things. either he really wanted the payday or really wanted to fight canelo.

It's a little of both. Big money and pride. The winner will be the No. 1 boxing attraction among Mexican fans.

Chavez couldn't come close to beating any of the top light heavyweights and he knows it. Any risks that comes with this catchweight fight is worth it just for the monetary compensation.

If a bad loss to Canelo doesn't send him to retirement it will most certainly put him on the shelf long enough to accumulate enough excess weight to guarantee that the lowest weight class he could ever make from here on out is 175.

With the weigh in just two hours and fifteen minutes away (5:30 EST) Junior weighed 165.2 last night, 7/10 of a pound over.

            <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2jnNtve2nAk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

            Canelo weighed 163.5.

EDIT: Official-both weigh in at 164 pounds even.

I think if the fight goes less than 8-9 rounds, it will be because Canelo stops Jr. But if it gets into the late rounds, I like Chavez's chances to have his constant pressure style start to pay off. Either way, Jr. can't allow Canelo to fight in spurts and rest when he wants to; I'm hoping for and ending somewhat similar to Jr.'s fight against Sergio Martinez, except with Jr. finishing the job.

Having said that, I have to agree that Chavez at this weight does not look like he'll carry his power or chin down with him. Seems like it's asking a bit much. Although I've already been wrong once - he made weight at the weigh-in (!!!). So maybe he's turned over a new leaf!?

JR has no interest fighting at 175 because his power and chin aren't as prevalent at that weight.
He's basically fighting a younger self in Yellow.
Both guys have taken advantage of their youth and ability to shrink and gain weight so they always have a huge advantage in size and strength come fight time.

Oh how I want JR to lay out Yellow but I agree with you guys, chances are great he's going to be completely sapped of his power from losing so much weight.

Lemieux is so much fun to watch.
I'd love to see him fight Yellow or Andy Lee.

And holy cow are Chavez's legs skinny.
                  He looks gaunt.

Didn't get the fight, but I noticed that at the weigh-in.

Chavez looks like he might be 170.
                      Yellow looks like he's 175-180.

Yellow and DLH should be ashamed of themselves.
JR is so weak and slow it's embarrassing.
                        A complete and total mismatch.

Fans got robbed. What a disgrace to boxing. Chavez literally didn't even try.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

                              Re: Boxing Off-Topic

I haven't paid for a PPV fight as a rule for over a decade. I paid for this fight. I immediately remembered why I had stopped all those years ago.

In addition to looking sort of bad after promising the guys a firefight one way or the other, that was one of the most disappointing fights I've seen in some time. I paid for a boxing match, not a WWF event.

The fix had to be in there. The whole night was just a set-up for the Canelo-GGG fight. Why else was there a coordinated, ready-to-go staged event ready for right after the bout, complete with video presentation and GGG ring-walk? And we're to believe that the Sept. 16th date that was already all set complete with signed contracts just happened recently? BS. The whole thing was more cheesy and set-up than your average WWF Monday Night RAW.

In that light, Chavez Jr's performance makes some sense - simply put, he looked like a guy that was throwing a fight. He did nothing. Even when he looks bad, he never looked so passive. He simply didn't put forth any effort. No matter what else you want to say about JCC Jr, he generally throws punches. That was just....baffling.

Boxing never fails to disappoint me. I love it and I commit a lot of my free time to it, but it's a totally abusive relationship. I'll consider this a $70 reminder of a lesson I should have learned a long time ago: never, ever pay for fights. I always end up disappointed.

Probably because the outcome was never in doubt before, during, and after the fight.

Look, Junior was never that good, and despite Yellow's unpopularity among OSers, he is good. So you have an outmatched opponent probably weakened by a weight drain-what's there to fix?
