They are two different sports. For him to get better he would have to compete with someone in an actual boxing match. Could he have beat last year's national Golden Gloves champion at 152 pounds? Could he have trained for one year without a sanctioned bout, and then qualify for a spot on the Irish national boxing team?
looks like conor will be sparring with paulie so who knows if he will be able to
give him enough pointers to make a difference in the fight....

Surprisingly Deontay Wilder's team is negotiating a bout with Luis Ortiz, possibly happening as early as October, but more than likely November 4th at the Barclay Center.

Some might assume that Wilder's previous reluctance to fight "King Kong" was a "ducking" problem, but the official reason was Ortiz's positive PED test almost 2 1/2 years ago. Since then Ortiz has been tested over a dozen times, several times voluntarily. He is already part of the WBC Clean Boxing Program.

The only hiccup in the match will be Bermane Stiverne who is owed a mandatory rematch for Wilder's WBC title. There is little interest from TV outlets for this bout so a "sidestep fee" will probably be paid to Stiverne.

Hey that Showtime deal has worked beautifully for both sides. I'm of the mind that PPV is a dinosaur but the structure of boxing in general is something of a dinosaur.

Chris Eubank gets in the World Boxing Super Series tournament with his dominating victory over Arthur Abraham this past weekend.

                Super Middleweight bracket
#1 George Groves (WBA champion - 26-3, 19 KO) vs Jamie Cox (23-0, 13 KO)

#3 Chris Eubank Jr (24-1, 19 KO) vs Avni Yildirim (16-0, 10 KO)

                #2 Callum Smith (22-0, 17 KO) vs Erik Skoglund (26-0, 12 KO)

                #4 Juergen Braehmer (48-3, 35 KO) vs Rob Brant (22-0, 15 KO)

                Cruiserweight bracket
#1 Oleksandr Usyk (WBO champion - 12-0, 10 KO) vs Marco Huck (40-4-1, 27 KO)

#3 Mairis Briedis (WBC champion - 22-0, 18 KO) vs Mike Perez (22-2-1, 14 KO)

#2 Murat Gassiev (IBF champion - 24-0, 17 KO) vs Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KO)

#4 Yunier Dorticos (WBA champion - 21-0, 20 KO) vs Dmitry Kudrayshov (21-1, 21 KO)

Against conventional tournament standards, the WBSS will have the #1 and #3 seed in one half of the bracket with the #2 and #4 seed in the other half (it's usually 1-4 and 2-3).

EDIT: It was just announced that the first bout will kick off September 16th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool between #2 seed Callum Smith and Erik Skoglund.

Well, at least we know McGregor won't get buzzed in sparring. Malignaggi's hands make Mayweather's pillows look like anvils.

I found it amusing that Berto constructs a monologue about all the ways that Floyd beat him reminding everyone of his miserable performance.

Why hasn't this guy retired yet? Why hasn't Victor Ortiz retired yet? Why does Victor Ortiz get movie/TV roles?

Sorry, I'm rambling a bit but I tend to link Ortiz with Berto. Their two fights have something to do with it, but it's mostly the fact that both were overhyped and overpaid throughout their career.

Because Victor Ortiz has the looks to be in movies/TV shows. He needs to improve his acting chops but the roles Victor Ortiz is getting are bit parts where his face and physical appearance serve a purpose.

By movie/TV industry "looks standards" I'd say Ortiz is a bit below the average of that grading curve. Is his name recognition that good?

Last year on Ray Donovan he appeared two or three times as a world class boxer. I guess they found a way to better utilize him, by not giving him any lines.

Granted I could have a faulty memory and mixing Ortiz with another, but in his post Mayweather fight press conference the thing I took away from him was that he didn't have the heart of a fighter. Its been so long I can't remember specifically what it was, but I want to say it was because he was all smiles and nonchalant about the ending.

Now I'm going to have to go youtube it

According to Dan Rafael Broner weighed in at 144 lbs today. He claims that he will have no problem making 140. Dan also points out that the penalty for Broner not making weight is $500,000.

4 pounds is nothing to cut in 24 hrs. He should be fine as long as he knows how to do it.
