Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I entered this fight as perhaps the world's biggest Wilder skeptic. After last night, I'll never sh*t-talk the Bronze Bomber again.
That was a statement victory. Wilder took multiple huge shots from arguably the biggest puncher in the division and stayed on his feet, especially in the seventh. What a beard -- who knew? And while he's still awkward as hell, Wilder proved he knows how to finish.
Purses: Wilder $2.1 million, Ortiz $500K
Joshua of course dwarfs Deontay in earnings. Wilder's purse range has lately fallen in the $1 million-$1.5 million range, so I thought this purse was pitifully small given the risk.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I give Wilder enormous credit just for taking this fight. He absolutely was under ZERO pressure to make a bout with Ortiz because of the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of their first scheduled bout. He could have let Ortiz die on the vine and catch some setup(s) before Joshua. I wonder if any of the "top" heavyweights (in some cases I use that term loosely) will rush to fight King Kong?

I absolutely love the brass pair on Wilder for taking on Ortiz.
He was also willing to fight in Povetkin's backyard.
He's the extremely rare fighter who means what he says.
Joshua wants no part of this man.
He'll duck him for another year - at least - and pray Wilders age and willingness to fight all commer's will catch up to him.
I just hope Wilder doesn't sign with DLH.
Golden Boy will make sure the fight with Joshua won't happen till 2020.

LOL, to be totally honest I didn't realize he was (or forgot) but Golden Boy had him up until three years ago (Jan 2015). They parted ways after the first Stiverne fight when main manager Al Haymon left GB and took his fighters to the PBC.Comment

Bivol-Barrera
Spoiler
Wow, what a fight. I've seen Bivol fight 3 times now and each time I come away impressed.
His precision and power remind of Kosta Tzyu. His jab is razor sharp and appears to be laser guided.
In the mid-rounds the commentators mentioned more than once that Bivol appeared to be losing steam and lacked his usual serious pop with his right hand.
Then the 12th comes and he Bivol lands an absolute razor sharp right-cross right on the button.
He also possess incredible hand speed. He was putting together some terrific combinations.
Barerra typically has a good jab of his own, but Bivol's speed completely negated that.
Barerra basically gave up on his jab by the 3rd round.
I can't wait to see Bivol fight again. The LT Heavyweight division could be the best in the sport right now. Really looking forward to seeing future fights with the top 175-pounders.
Barrera deserves a lot of credit too. What heart! He faced a whirlwind and kept his composure and managed to relinquish some of Bivol's power with some terrific body shots.
It's the first time he's been stopped in his career. I can see why.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Bivol is good, but dominating Barrera doesn't indicate he's quite ready yet for Kovalev. Barrera is tough but badly faded.
Kovalev would handle Bivol right now. Bivol moves and boxes like a middleweight, but man, he looks small in there. I fear he would have trouble with a big, strong light heavy.
Give Bivol an extra year to bulk up and hone his craft, and he could give Kovalev a rugged test. I have no problem with a Kovalev-Bivol matchup marinating for another nine to 12 months.
Maybe Chickenson will grow a set of balls and take on Kovalev. Then again, maybe not. We are talking about Adonis Stevenson, arguably the biggest paper champion and ducker in the sport today.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I don't think Chikenson will ever try Kovalez or Beterbiev, because of fear and finances. He might as well fight a couple of setups and get the same money. Having said that he's running out of stiffs and he might not get by Badou Jack in May although I wouldn't bet against him.Comment

On another note last night in a fight that should have been stopped one punch earlier (IMO) Julius Indongo was brutalized by stalking hard hitting Regis Prograis (pronounced PRO-gray).Comment
