Roy Jones: "Sergey Kovalev is Pretty Much Done at 35!"

Roy could be right but I don't know if he's the guy to comment on when a fighter is done.

EDIT: Kovalez appeared tired as Alvarez landed a windup right hand through a very lazy defense.

The "Krusher's" promoter Kathy Duva tried to do some damage control, but mostly highlighted a problem that might lead to an early retirement:

“Sergey seems to gas out after six rounds, He was great for six rounds and then he faltered. I assumed he got tired.”

Considering his performances against Ward, I think there’s truth to this.
And to be honest, Father Time is undefeated, boxing is a very tough sport, and Kovalev has some miles on him.
It wouldn’t be the first time a fighter aged quickly in the middle of a fight.

I hate saying this, but this is the one reason I’m worried about GGG.
The same thing could very well happen to him in September.
It may be one of the reasons, heck maybe the main reason, he was desperate to get a rematch.
Maybe he knows he’s slipped and only has a few more rounds at his peak.

I think GGG takes better care of himself between fights and has more discipline in general. I hear Sergey loves his beer and vodka.

I guess Chilemba got his bell rung Saturday night along with Kovalez. I will say Bivol looked pretty tame the second half of the fight.

Wow. Just....wow. I did not see that coming. I knew nothing about Eleider Alvarez to be honest, and I wasn't sure what to expect from Kovalev, but I sure didn't expect that outcome. Stunning.

.people think its a myth but I have seen it too much..alvarez did land a good shot on the sweet spot though..
I don't think this is a myth at all. We've all seen it happen. Boxing is cruel like that - when your expiration date is up, there's no mercy.

On the plus side, maybe Adonis Stevenson will finally fight Kovalev now....

Oh, and as a final note, I think this pretty much puts to rest the notion that John David Jackson was somehow to blame for Kovalev's loss(es) to Ward. Kovalev was really vocal in blaming Jackson for his form and that break-up was pretty ugly (even by boxing standards), but I'm pretty sure Jackson has been vindicated at this point.

I don't have a good read on Bivol yet. He definitely wins and seems to have good power, but Chilemba was pretty competitive in the 2nd half of the fight. Which means...what, I don't know?

I'd still be interested in a Kovalev-Bivol fight though. I see Kovalev as a bit of a gate-keeper guy at this point (which is crazy to say out loud).

He hits pretty well for his record. Gave Bute a right-hand thrashing too (and a case of the "shakes").

Chickenson will not fight Kovalez although if he had the guts to I'd now call it a dead even fight. It will be tough for Krusher to come back from this one but if he tries it will create some great boxing drama.

Bivol seems a little cautious sometimes. Jim Lampley said that Duva would be wise to seek an Alvarez-Krusher II rather than rush Bivol in against "Storm" because "Eleider has game". IMO Kovalez's next fight needs to be with the guy that just knocked him out. HIGH DRAMA!!

Go away, spammer. Amir Khan excites almost no one in the boxing world except for members of his immediate family.

Khan-Vargas is not exactly Fight Of The Century. I have zero interest.

The funny thing is, of all the places on the internet to come spam with BS posts like this, I would say this is one of the absolute lowest returns on that (admittedly minimal) time investment. This thread is pretty small as it is (in terms of active/engaged posters), and pretty much 100% of the commentariat is really in tune with the ins-and-outs of the fight game. So the odds that anyone is going to go to that stupid website that will guaranteed put a virus on your computer to watch a washed-up mid-tier fighter (after 500 more clicks and a handful of personal information dumps) is pretty much zero.

                        Full points for effort, though!

Really cool program in Detroit teaching kids boxing, but emphasis on studying and education:
The Downtown Boxing Gym in Detroit is a place where kids think they are learning the essentials of boxing, but in reality they are being taught about how to succeed in life.
