Hell yea. Alvarado deserved it. He kept hitting & moving instead of getting lazy and staying inside too much, like he did in the first fight.

When he started landing that right hand, that was it.

A rematch in Denver sounds good to me. Rubber match would be awesome.

Yeah, Alvardo's right cross and movement combined to keep Rios off balance. Lederman's comments about Alvardo's circling/movement being a detriment seemed to have some validity early in the fight. It seemed he coordinated his movement and punching as the fight progressed.

Both of those guys can sure take a punch.

Either one of these guys against Broner would be a heck of a fight.

Sucks that it will never happen.

What is Rios' chin made out of? He didn't even seem fazed by some pretty incredible shots landing right on the button. Both guys took some serious damage, but for Rios to just casually walk through some of those Alvarado shots that would put most guys to sleep is just completely mind-boggling.

The 3rd fight should be good. Seems like Alvarado made all the adjustments between the first and second fights, so now it's Rios' turn to make some changes. Will be interesting to see what he does - and whether it affects how exciting the fight is. Somehow, I think most people think it'll still end up a slugfest...

You think because Broner is done forever at 140, neither guy will move up, or the Golden Boy / Top Rank feud? Or all of the above?

The TR/GB feud. They dont need each other to make money and so that fight will never happen/

Broner would beat Rios easily. Rios can't handle slick counterpunchers. Hell, he lost to middling boxer-counterpuncher Richard Abril, for Christ's sake, getting the decision only on a gift.

Broner is too smart to be lured into an inside fight with Rios. He would pick his spots, stick and move and counterpunch all night, winning by a fairly comfortable unanimous decision. Alvarado used that same strategy to pull away in the second half of the fight last Saturday, and he's nowhere near as good at those tactics as Broner.

But that fight won't happen due to the TR-GBP feud, as everyone has noted.

I think you may be right. The only question mark is Broner's toughness.

I gave Rios a maximum of 3 rounds. It was a VERY entertaining fight, but I was shocked at one of the score cards I believe it was 114-113 or something crazy.

Rios acting like he won was so silly to me, he said Alvarado just danced away etc., but Rios was being consistently tagged from rounds 3 to the end, and Rios did next to nothing for a full 5 rounds, maybe more. He was stalking, but there were some rounds he was staggered and hurt and barely did anything at all. Rios clearly had Round 1 and 2, but beyond that - not much.

So I respectfully disagree, it was not a close fight to me (but still a good one)

Great fight though I preferred the Bradley scrap.

Curious to see what happens in the 3rd as Rios has the ability to make more adjustments than Alvarado.

Do you mean in general Rios has the ability to make more adjustments, or specifically with regard to changing tactics between fight #2 and fight #3? Because if the former, I disagree....Rios just is who he is at this point; I don't see that changing too significantly. He could make some minor adjustments for the 3rd fight, though (in fact he has to), whereas Alvarado made all the adjustments he is capable of between fights 1 and 2.

Rios absolutely has the ability to make a few adjustments and win the 3rd fight handily.

Most likely he won't, but he has the ability.

Alvarado is who he is from a talent standpoint and all he can do is hope Rios fights stubborn.
