    Garcia vs Lopez

Garcia dominated. The fact that he came in two pounds overweight is pretty shady. I think Kellerman had a great point about star fighters buying a weight advantage. Not cool.

Yeah, it's disappointing that Garcia couldn't make weight, because it took a lot of excitement out of the fight, in my opinion. I wonder if he can consistently make 126 going forward, because that's a little more interesting of a weight class than 130 (IMO of course). Garcia clearly has a ton of talent, and he's a really interesting fighter because he's a disciplined boxer with a lot of skill, but can also brawl and has heavy hands with good power in both hands. He can knock guys out without necessarily pressing for a KO, which is always exciting to watch. If he can keep making the weight, he should try to regain his title and clear out the weight class before moving up, but if he's killing himself to make 126, it might just be time for him to admit he's a junior lightweight (or higher).

Lopez severely lacks fundamentals. no balance, feet squared up too often, and extremely 'lazy' with his punches - doesn't pull his hands back into a defensive position quick enough after punching. these factors are a recipe for disaster vs a well-balanced, fundamentally sound fighter like Garcia...

It also makes him exciting, though...remember when he was going to be the next big thing in the division? Kinda bummed that didn't pan out - he's an action fighter who's exciting to watch, but he's got a lot of ring years and was looking worn out....

Wonder how much they're taking from Garcia's purse? Or maybe they haven't determined it yet?

I thought I heard before the fight it was either $100k or $150k. So not exactly chump change.

I think he only made $220,000 so that sounds downright punitive! (68%)

68% is definitely severe. i'm almost positive Lampley said 150k was in the contract, but i'm sure Garcia thought making weight wouldn't be a problem when he agreed to that figure.

Hmmm...didn't know that Mikey is trained by renowned trainer Robert Garcia. I also didn't know that his trainer is his older brother!

Yep, that's why they talk about Mikey having "gone to grad school" for boxing and all that...he has a first-rate boxing family. And to think he didn't even want to get in the ring when when he was younger!
