    Unfortunately his name will always conjure up the Paret fight.

      yeah, it kinda sucks. can't hear the name "Emile Griffith" without thinking of the Paret fight before anything else.

        Yeah, it really is too bad. He was a heck of a fighter, but he wasn't quite the same after the death.

        I remember reading about Paret and apparently he had a reputation of playing possum when it looked like he was getting drilled.
        Griffith and his team knew this so they instructed Emile to keep hitting him no matter what.
        And the referee also knew this of Paret so he didn't want to stop the fight if it looked like he got into trouble.
        Unfortunately, that led to his unfortunate demise.

        It was a nice story to see that Griffith made amends with Paret's son and that there were no hard feelings.
        But you could tell that Griffith carried that guilt with him his whole life.

        RIP champ.
