So in the press conference, he basically confirmed HIV by the bad choices, don't look at me as a role model, etc., then in the latter interview he said it was a false positive.

I highly doubt it was a false positive to begin with. He was a pretty mixed up guy with some weirdness going on towards the end. It is sad though that he went this early.

I honestly believe when the reality of losing (at least $50) millions of dollars set in, he lost all rationality.

I'm not sure it was the reality of losing money that made him become an HIV-denier (whatever that is), although that may have had something to do with it. I think he just couldn't accept his situation and allowed himself to be deluded by the crazy theories on the internet, and since you can't really "see" HIV per se, one can sort of see how certain people could convince themselves it isn't real.

I think it's a bit sad that he could have spent his life doing a lot of good and educating people about the risks of STD's, unwanted pregnancy, etc., and all the while getting good medical care, he could still be alive and relatively healthy and (one would hope) happy. That seemed to be the way it was going when he made his first annoncement - I still remember how powerful his "I'm not a role model" press conference was. But I guess it's a bit unfair of me to say he should have done this or that, because faced with a life-changing situation like that, who's to say how anyone should react?

Agree. He had good speed for his size and hit hard; probably could have been a top heavyweight for many years. He may not even have reached his peak at the time his career was cut short. Boxing, unfortunately, seems to have a disproportionate amount of careers/lives end in tragic fashion. I guess that's the nature of a sport where the best are frequently born of desparate situations...

I agree with the above poster. His mental state is neither here nor there. It's good that HIV is no longer the death sentence it once was. But regardless of what Morrison's cause of death was it's a tragic loss anytime a life is gone. That's someone's loved one. It's even worse when it's a life cut short and to think he must have been dealing with some serious emotional baggage in his last years. Rest in peace to him and condolences to his loved ones. He was a big man to admit he wasn't a role model. But who among us hasn't had unprotected sex at least once? If you have you can't judge. I hope he got right with God before he passed and is in a better place. RIP champ.

Loved watching this guy fight when he was coming up. Don't know him as a person so I won't comment on that, but he always put on a good show in the ring.
