I hate FNC. Why is FN2 the best version of this series?

So I've bought all the Fight Night games and this series started out so promising. The first one introduced the fight stick mechanics that were PERFECT in that game. The bobbing, the weaving, the simplicity of jab, hook, uppercut. All of these things made sense and the game played wonderfully. Then, 3 came out and had a MUCH different feel to it. I liked the counter punching, but still preferred the look and feel of 2.
Then, they make fight night champion. Uggghhh. What a beautiful game that plays ridiculously. First off, EVERY time I try to throw an uppercut, it throws TWO uppercuts and throws off my timing. Second, normally an uppercut is more powerful than a hook is more powerful than a jab. Not in this game. How many times can I lose a fight having thrown and landed 3 times as many hooks/uppercuts as the CPU has thrown/landed jabs. Never getting a knockout or even tiring out my opponent. And, forget that stupid haymaker button, that's gotta go. And, what's with the billion different types of punches in this version? Give me hook, jab, uppercut. Keep it simple. Mapping too many punch types to the right stick makes this game unplayable. What a shame. And, consistently getting knocked down/out by jabs EVERY match!!!??? Yeah, 2 was the best version of the game on the Xbox, not even 360 yet. Geez.

I agree with much of your post but I have to disagree with not having a wide variety of punches at your disposal. There are boxers who use a wide arsenal of punches when they fight. Boxers also have different ways they execute punches which should be present in a Fight Night game.
You say the uppercut should be stronger that a hook. I disagree! They are boxers who couldn't crack an egg with an uppercut. The strength addition they added to punches is a great idea but executed poorly. I have boxed and train boxer (my son) for many years. The uppercut may catch you off guard or move your head a little in close quarters but that doesn't mean it's more powerful. I have knocked out plenty of boxers in close with a hook. These punches alot depend on leverage, placement, and strength

Right on. I may be exaggerating a bit on punch power. My overall displeasure with the game has been the fact that the CPU gets in 100 jabs, while I get in 100 quality hooks/uppercuts. Believe me, I throw more hooks than uppercuts as uppercuts tend to be harder to land, so I am with u on the hook being a quality punch. But really, it doesn't even feel like the CPU 'jabs me to death,' I always feel like I'm landing quality punches throughout the fight, but after 5-6 rounds, here I am knocked down 2-3 times and then the final KO without ever even stumbling my opponent. Well, folks, let's look at the punch stats. And, there it is, I land a higher % of punches, a higher # of punches and landed probably a 2 to 1 ratio of hook/uppercuts to his jabs, and yet I am the one beaten and bloody. And, I get having overhand punches and whatnot, but it's too hard to implement with the right stick and I LOVED the introduction of the fight stick for this series. This was truly innovative. Unfortunately, the more punches u map to this thing, the more likely u are to throw the wrong punch, and in particular, that bug for me where it throws 2 uppercuts instead of 1 has gotten me knocked out too many times. For those reasons, I just liked the way 2 played overall. Champion looks great and has a ton of fighters, but man oh man, I just cannot get the stick to work and am tired of out power punching fools only to get knocked out by a little jab. And, don't get me wrong, a jab is an important weapon and used effectively can ultimately knock someone out, but I just don't feel this game implemented punch power correctly and it DRIVES ME NUTS!!!! lol.

I agree and it's going to make me mad if they create an incredible MMA game for the UFC title. It seemed like they didn't really care for the sport.

boxing games never get a accurate representation of the sport. Thats why I stay away from online, there is very little strategy in FNC compared to the actual sport. Personally I think that EA will make a stellar UFC game just due to the popularity and passion of the sport. Boxing is my favorite sport, always will be but its an aging dionsaur unfortunately.

Boxing has been around for centuries it has always had it's dry spells but that was no excuse for Fight Night to be created the way it was. The game creation wasn't executed realistic. This had to do with production of the game not the sport of boxing current situation.

Oh I already know, what I was hinting at was that the production of the game may have been half-baked due to the state of the sport. Then again I play other EA sports games.

It puzzles me because why make a game at all if you are investing money in boxers and not making all it can be to the fans of the sport. I'm a Fight Night Community Leader and I know for a fact that Fight Night lost alot of fans because of it's non sim/realistic approach. This is what hurt it's sales.

Part of the reason is they're developed by different teams. FN 1-3 is made by EA chicago, and IMO the best ones in the series. FN 4 and champion are made by EA chicago.

I only own and play Fight Night 4 on this gen of consoles. Is FN3 that much better?

I have a ton of CAB boxers and love doing my fantasy tourney matches.

Online I preferred FN3 to any of them. Offline, no boxing game has held my interest. Wouldn't it be great if a terrific boxing game came out on the PS4 or Xbox1?

FNR 3 was a lot of fun, but the stun parry kind of ruined it.

FNR4 was the one I spent my most time online with. Had some really great fights.

FN Champion is a mess online, but I have some great fights offline with it. I'm still playing it to this day. I'd probably say FNR4 is better, but I'd have to play it again to refresh my memory.

I'm holding out hope that we'll get another boxing game. I'd really like to see what can be done on a next gen system.

I'd got with FNR4 for best in the series. There were just a lot of improvements in terms of the physics involved. Solid inside fighting, you'd see more glancing type shots instead of either hit or miss, bother fighters landing at the same time, etc.

When FNC first came out I was disappointed with it. I didn't like the story mode and felt like it was really derivative of Prizefighter. From a gameplay standpoint the scoring sometimes seemed off, I didn't love the control changes, and the motion blur affect of the punches made them look better, but I felt they also made the flow of action harder to follow as a player.

Over time FNC has grown on me some and I started playing it again recently. Overall though FNR4 is still the P4P gaming king to me.

I still think the series can be deeper.Fight Night needs to be more responsive to the tendencies and abilities of each individual boxer. The single player modes needs to be much deeper especially the career. It needs a manager like mode.
