Micky Ward worked full time until his last two fights with Gatti, which both produced seven-figure paydays, I think.

A manager is to take care of a boxer and Beth is money back at fight time. Many wait until the boxer makes 5 or 6 figures to get back their investment. My management was greedy.
Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.

Along with a fighters ability to lose and regin weight, this is the next biggest advantage some fighters enjoy over others.
I look at a guy like Glen Johnson who discovered his full potential once he found a manager that believed in him and put him on a payroll which allowed him to box full time.

Makes you wonder how many potential HoF boxers the world would have known if they were given the same opportunities as others.

Frazier was pretty bitter his entire pro career thinking about how he had to work full-time when first turning pro, while Muhammed Ali had the audacity to call him an Uncle Tom while being on the payroll of 13 wealthy white businessmen.

I wish there was a union for pro boxers.
A union that demanded that any fighter on a contract would receive some semblance of medical coverage as well as a pension and/or educational fund.

The sport, as a whole, is so shortsighted.
I'm sure if a good young athlete knew he'd be medically covered and had a college scholarship waiting for them once their career was over, they might choose boxing over another sport.

I believe it was Emanuel Steward who said the next great heavyweight champion is on a basketball court or football field.
