The videos look like the best representation of boxing to date

Where are those people who called the game vaporware?

“Sign up for a chance to play” with no mention of when the beta will actually be available to play. They are trying to gauge interest to see if it’s even worth continuing on at this point.

THIS GAME WILL NEVER COME OUT!

it's the animation. taken a huge step backwards imo, they just sped up the punch animations rather than accentuating visual cue's needed to sell the power as well as the absorption.

Unless something changed, the article has three days in which the Beta will be available.

It's quite literally in the title. Very odd how your blind hate for this game (That hasn't even released into beta yet) can lead to total loss of reading comprehension. Can't be healthy

                      Same here after updating twice.

Its a beta, these things are expected.

This is why I was hoping we'd at least have offline play as an option, instead of sitting around doing nothing while they sort out the network issues.

Was able to get in 1 full 8 round bout.

I used the bout to test the stamina system, lot of movement and 50+ punches a round.

                        Impressions

Everything movement wise felt great, footwork had weight, slipping and feints all felt really good.

Punching wise is where we have serious problems. First and foremost, you have to stand still to throw a punch in this game.

Punching in general is very sluggish, I use TPC and about 30% of the time the sticks weren't registering. I also tested this with the buttons, same issue. That could be lag but I figured you'd see that in movement to if that were the issue. The animations themselves also need work, it feels like you're just going through the motions instead of punching through. You can see what I'm talking about in the gameplay videos.

Stamina system did not wow me, honestly felt just like FNC. The bar depletes and you slow down but overall I should not be moving around in round 8 same as I was in round 1 after 400+ punches.

I was finally able to get 4 rounds in with one of the female boxers against Gatti [emoji23]. Like you said, the movement, especially the slips and head movement feel really good. I felt like I could actually see punches coming and avoid/block them. I feel a little different about the punching. I felt like it was fairly responsive WHEN I wasn’t gassed out. I thought it was tuned fairly decently so that it wasn’t overly fast but then again the matchup was with two fighters that aren’t known for hand speed.

I glanced over the controls before I played but I still didn’t get comfortable with them until round 4 of a 5 round fight which is when I couldn’t get out of the corner because I didn’t know the clench and Gatti dropped me with a left hook up top.

You’re 100% right about the knockdown and some of the animations not looking great. However I did like that Gatti felt bigger but slower. I was able to keep some distance and step in with a jab and maybe follow it up with another one or a straight right.

Graphically it looks pretty decent with high settings. I don’t know if there’s audio in it or my volume was low but I had no sound which sucked.

I’ll get in some more this weekend and see if my initial impressions aren’t just a case of me being happy we finally have a boxing game again.

One thing I wish they did not bring over from FN is the Kudo charge up haymaker aka power modifier. That is not how power punching works in boxing. Boxers don't charge up their power punches like Dragon Ball Z characters.

Power in boxing comes from leverage and punching through the target. If you're lunging forward or front foot planted, that should automatically be a power punch. Inside fighters don't just plant and throw their arms around, they throw all their punches with KO intention, having to use a modifier for that is dumb imo.

Moving away from your opponent or being off balance should not have power since those motions lack leverage. Jabbing on the move is a thing in boxing, no reason why it shouldn't be a thing in this game.

I think this would greatly go towards fixing the punching issues I encountered and free up L1 for something more useful.

Played a bunch of matches now and, overall, I think this has all the signs of a great game I'll play a lot. Considering its the first fully public playthrough, I was glad to see that the things that need changing are fixing.

And for those things are mainly stamina and punching power. I played several people who'd just spam punches and end up at 20% overall stamina who were still able to move like there were at 100% stamina. For me, this is absurd. When my stamina's gone down that low in a spar I feel like I'm covered in treacle and every movement is a slog. It should feel like this in game.

Punching power for me is a TAD underdone. On one hand it's difficult with the mens boxers because they both have the granite chin trait, which is probably helping with the lack of knockdowns. But also if I manage to pull someone onto a flush counter power right hand, they should at least be dazed. But overall I do like that fights have been going to the cards more, most fights do tbh.

One thing I wish they did not bring over from FN is the Kudo charge up haymaker aka power modifier. That is not how power punching works in boxing. Boxers don't charge up their power punches like Dragon Ball Z characters.

I disagree here, if you want power in your punches you sit down on them, having your feet planted doesn't make it automatically a power punch. Having a modifier helps change up the speed of the shots, which is what most inside fighters do to trick opponents (throw some light to the head, get the guard up and hard shots to the body, etc). They could maybe change the animation a bit but the core concept works well IMO.
