Re: Parrys Ruin The Game
[QUOTE=Bbucsfan][QUOTE=bronbron]Originally posted by ausar72Stop complaining! This is the best boxing game ever.
I agree. However i don' t think the game is a 'fuking mess'...but it will do. I am as big of a boxing fan as you'll find and I am somewhat dissappointed by FNR2. Gameplay aside....there are soooo many "little" things that ea could have done to make this game at least feel more authentic.
-Custom music (for entrances at least!!!)
-They need to add robes into the clothing selection. I think it would be better if we could unlock different style robes, hats, rappers (or any performer they happen to have on the ea trax), or any other intro items besides the ring girls. I would much rather enjoy unlocking all that than having to unlock different color shorts and gloves....i mean wtf, are we dressing up barbie dolls here?
-More T.V. Style presentation:
- an intro similar to that of HBO's boxing after dark telecasts.....get a 3 man booth....or atleast a 2 announcers...i'm tired of just listening to 1 guy repeat himself over and over. HEY! I heard Sega's Dan Stevens and Peter O' Keefe might need a job.....give them a shot.
- As they talk about the upcoming main event...why not have a shot of each boxer in their locker room either listening to their headphones while getting taped or shadow boxing or something like that.
- more hype, more build up (with an option to skip for those who just want to get straight to the fight). What happened to the boxers introduction....why do they introduce them while they are coming in to the ring...this isn't wrasilin'. Player introductions with they're record appearing on their screen like it does on TV....while the boxer is pacing back and forth with his trainers in the background.
- where's the 'tale of the tape' for cryin out loud...does anybody at ea even watch boxing??!!!
- why cant' they get a "tv broadcast" camera view?
Even though I am somewhat dissapointed in this years FN, It is still the only boxing game out for the xbox right now so I will have to settle....and its not a bad game at all....its just that it could be soooo much better if more effort was put into it.Comment

As a huge boxing fan myself, I totally agree with everything you just said. I would love to see more of a TV style approach for the bigger fights. Would be cool if you started your career in tiny venues, with no TV and work yourself up to cable telecasts then Pay-per-view. That would be so cool.
Yes, the game is very good, but it just needs some polish. Needs a little more depth to the career and a little more realism in the presentation. I think that the underlying boxing engine in the game is solid.
I don't mind the parry feature, in fact I think there should be a large reward for reacting to a punch that the opponent telegraphed. I mean think what happens in real boxing if a professional knows exactly what punch you are going to throw...There are big rewards for guessing correctly. The Parry was the best system that I have seen this far to replicate that advantage. Whether its overdone or not is debateable, but if you block your oppenets punch because you saw it coming, you should be appropriately rewarded.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

That is a GREAT idea for that usage of pay-per-view. Give 'big time' fights and title fights some of that ESPN NFL2k5 "superbowl" presentation....but more.
I really wish sega and visual concepts would attempt a boxing game.Comment

Re: Parrys Ruin The Game
I really am enjoying the game. Haymakers and parrying are not that big a deal to me. It forces you to open up your arsenal and not just throw hooks and uppercuts. I do a lot of jabbing when I play, which is what most technicaly sound boxers do anyway. It sets up the other punches.
I do agree with the comments others made about the presentation. Adding addition commentators is great.
A 'tale of the tape' would have been a great thing. Just show the fighters pic, height, reach, age, record etc....in a comparison format right before each fight. And the commentators could play off that.
Ring Magazine type feature each month/quarter would be hot. It could show champions of each weight class and even put the top 5 fighters in each weight class. It could annouce who is turning pro or announce the title changing hands as you play your career.Comment

Another great presentation idea!!! Give us a Ring Magazine feature similar to that of the SI feature in NCAA. I would not like to see it after every fight but make a new issue after every year...sort of an annual recap of your virtual boxing world.Comment

Re: Parrys Ruin The Game
Set him up with jabs and weak hooks. If he manages to parry your jab, it'll do nothing because you recover quicker than you would with a haymaker. Mix it up with body blows and head blows.Comment

Originally posted by aholbert32I dont see that problem. I lead with a right hook alot either to the body or the head. I only play at the medium level so maybe thats the reason but I have no trouble landing hooks or uppercuts to start a combo.
lol. THATS WHY then! Medium is ridiculously easy after you've played for awhile. But after u move up to Hard it becomes unrealistic becuz the CPU can do things that a human possibly cant.
Dont even think about throwing an uppercut or hook on hard or you WILL be countered!!Comment
