    Unluckiest First Fights?

Whenever I am looking at a star fighter's record on Boxrec.com I always can't help thinking about the 0-0, 1-0, etc.. type fighters that they usually fight in their pro debut.

It always gets me thinking: what fighter has fought some very tough opponents in the first 5-10 fights in their career? I think it probably has less to do with bad luck and more to do with maybe bad choices, or maybe they just really needed the money.

For example, a Welterweight named Jorge Morales made his pro debut in 1997 against Fernando Vargas and got knocked out 56 seconds into the fight. Less than two months later in his second pro fight he got clocked in the second round against future light welterweight champion Antonio Diaz. What were the odds that this guy's first two opponents were future champions?

Can anyone find someone worse than this?

That's why you can't always go by the record. A guy can be 15-10 and be alot better fighter than a 19-0 prospect who has not fought anyone. A good matchmaker or promoter will look at who a guy has fought, not just a record.

Yep.. Pendleton started out 2-4 & had very bad management. They through him in against fighters much better then him.. One time he was 13-15!! But still became lightweight champion of the world.. Mike Weaver is another one..
