Re: EA UFC Retail Impressions Thread
I know you simply hearing the feedback doesn't necessarily lead to change, but it shows that you care, and I honestly think that goes a long way. I just wanted to thank you.Comment

Re: EA UFC Retail Impressions Thread
Attacking the legs will lead to a leg damage health event (the other health events being stun, critical stun, wobbled, liver damage). When you are in the leg damage state, your movement is severely hampered, and you play a limping movement set.
During development we experimented with various other things during the different health events. We had a takedown attempt that kind of started but failed as the fighter hopped gingerly on the leg. We also tried disabling takedowns altogether. Stuff like that. In the end the feedback on that wasn't good so we went with what you see in the game now. I think if we'd had time to capture more animations that sell the leg damage that may have made some of those features work better, but we weren't in a position to capture more, and they didn't look good so we had to drop them. Oh, and I think we also drop your ratings when you're in a health event.
Someone also asked if damage accumulates over multiple rounds, and it does. So punishing the legs in the early rounds could pay off in later rounds with an easier leg damage health event. The damage tuning has the same caveat that the stamina tuning does though, in that it is much more apparent in real time rounds over accelerated clock as we don't currently have tunings sets for the different modes.
The other place legs kicks are useful is in sweeping the leg of your opponent when he is balanced only on one leg. This is driven entirely by physics, but should be something I expect people to master eventually and use as a tactic.
Hope that answers your question.
Could you go into more detail about the ratings while a fighter is damaged?
-Less power?
-How long do these penalties last?
Also glad to hear that leg kicks can be used for sweeping.
Thanks for answering our questions.Comment

Anything that is tied to a health event will only last the length of the health event, which you can see by the animation change.
Everything else is a bit more involved and since I didn't write it myself I'll need to get a refresher on the details before answering.Comment

I'll have to look at the code tomorrow to be 100% sure of everything.

I really hope the DLC comes out steadily and has lots of additions. I didn't realize so many guys aren't in the game."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

How do you get out of the muai Thai clinch against the cage? That **** is the most annoying bs I've encountered so far. It's like you can't push off. I've lost like 4 fights from it.Comment

Has the game finished installing for anyone out there? I finished downloading my game at around 10:10-10:20 and I'm only 60% done with the install. I might just go to bed, I'm mad tired...

Re: EA UFC Retail Impressions Thread
Looks to me like playing a match while the game is installing sort of halts the install process. I started a 3 round accellerated clock match that ended in a decision while the install was at 29%, by the time the match ended the install was at 30%. Then when i left the game on the main menu the install went from 30% to 50% in about 5 minutes.

Re: EA UFC Retail Impressions Thread
Depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a realistic representation of MMA, dont get it. Its not that and really not even close to that.
If you are looking for a fun MMA game that has some realistic elements, get it. I've learned to ignore the flaws and found workarounds for the biggest issue I had with the game (lack of CAFs) so I'm just gonna ignore it.
As long as EA patches the game (like they do with every sports games) and provides and decent amount of DLC, I will be happy.
I'm not gonna give it a rating or anything like thts, that's silly until I play the game for a lot longer.
This post is SOLELY my view regarding HUMAN vs CPU play. Have not yet played against a user
It feels very arcade to me and that's fine. I am not saying it's bad or that it isn't fun. Again, this is just my very very first impression. I don't think EA ever called it a simulation so it's not like something was promised and not delivered.
I have been using the correct transition/sweep/reversal block with the right stick direction and still find them to be too successful for the opponent on the bottom. I will continue to practice this though and hope it's just user error in my part. It's to the point now where if I am in dominant position and they defend against my first submission attempt I immediately try to stand up because a sweep is coming.
I have had a good experiences so far with striking and clinch work, I feel very comfortable in those two areas. Takedowns and takedown defense is natural for me as well. I just need to focus primarily on the ground game and hope it becomes second nature as well. Any pointers here is appreciated.
Using Ronda it felt great throwing Alexis around from the clinch, and using Frankie it felt great stringing together combos and trying to time my opponents punches for a counter.
I wouldn't go as far to say this feels like Tekken or anything like that, but so far I definitely don't think it looks like what I see on TV.
I look forward to getting deeper into the game tomorrow. Also look forward to reading impressions from everyone else"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
