I added a tutorial in Word inside the attached folder. I want to add more later, but I wanted to get this out before I get off work.

Also, the spreadsheet isn't 100% perfect yet. I plan on updating it some more next week, as well.

how do you guys rank the fighters?
for example, when the #9 guy in the division beats the #5 guy.
does the #9 guy become the #5 ranked and vice versa?
or does the #5 guy simply become #6, #6 becomes #7, #7 becomes #8 etc

Depending what other people are doing in the division, I usually would move the #9 guy to #6 or #7. It also depends how the fight played out. If it was a close split decision, I move them up less, but if it was a dominating finish, they could move into top 4

This is also what I do. Usually a good win will move the fighter up 2 spots. A dominant win I will do 3 and 1 for a split decision or close fight. Also depended on the division for UFC 1 as there wasent many fighters in some of the lighter weights, but this year that shouldnt be an issue.

Also, if fighters fight each other and I do the ranking changes, if the winner is ranked one spot below the loser, I will flip them.

I also like to run tournaments once in a while to shake up the rankings. Ill do an 8 or 16 man tournament if the division is stagnant and then re do the rankings according to the tournament results with the winner getting a title shot.

This year I want to try and incorporate a random injury and possibly PED suspension to my universe. Fighters often pull out of events and I want to have some sort of system in place for that. Not sure how to do it yet, Possibly just have 6 or so full cards set up and have a random fighter picked to pull out of a fight. Not sure yet.

I like the injury idea, but would you put every fighter from every 6 cards or whatever into a random list, and only 1 pulls out?

Re: Running a UFC 2 Universe

Since MMA rankings are usually pretty close to nonsense anyway I run with that in my rankings and don't have any set formula or rules. I reevaluate the rankings after each fight for the division that had the fight (or hold off if there are two fights in that division on the card until after the second one) and move them up and down based on gut feel. I've had situations where a #8 beat a #3 and moves all the way up to #3 or 4, and I've had situations where there's a similar upset and he only moved up to like 6. There are just too many variables within each division to set even loose rules.

Injuries are something I definitely want to incorporate, since they do a nice job of jumbling up matchups and keep it from all being formulaic. It doesn't necessarily make sense to make the #3 guy fight the #11 guy, but if the original opponent pulls out it might. I'll probably just have the sheet decide a random number for each fighter and check that against an 'injury rating' to decide.

Yeah something like that, maybe have a random number between 1-5 being amount of injuries and just have a list of every fighter in my universe added, if they have a fight scheduled then have them pull out. If not scheduled to fight, maybe hold off on scheduling them.

Or have a random injury list with set time frames for certain injuries, and do the random list and have whoever gets picked "tagged" with that injury. I'll have to do some research as to how often fighters actually pull out of events and figure something out.

There was a point system in one of the older spreadsheets, if i remember correctly, 4 points for finishes, 3 for unanimous decision and 2 for win 1 for loss in a split decision
Thought it was good idea, might help with rankings

If you do enough fights that works, but since a lot of guys won't do more than 5 or so you really have to consider who the fights are against.

I think what I might try and do with injuries is have 6 cards setup ahead of time and always have 6 ahead of my active card.
I will always have 11 fights per card. I will then give the main event favorite the #1 the challenger #2 and so on for all 6 cards so I'll have 132 numbers total. I will take and pick a random number from a random # site and that one will have to pull out with a injury that I will also randomly pick from 1 day to 6 months may increase it to a year pending on how long it takes me to finish events.(I'm playing 3 events per month for 36 per year)I think I will pick 3 numbers out of the 132.

I'm also going to randomly select fighters to be out pending on how bad of a beating they took in the fight. Like 2-3 guys from each card might be out up to 6 months pending on what random # gets picked, this might also have to be tweaked as I go.

I think to keep some lower level guys getting fights I may just enter real life results into the sheet when I get started. Like a fight night with some guys who I'm not familiar with who I won't be booking on my own cards are set to fight in real life, I'll add a card and just update with the real life results. That way the lower ranked guys are still seeing some action and having their stats update...

But I'm also new to the game and all of these sheets so we will see how well that works. Just a thought though!

started going through and making my fighter rankings last night for each weight class. Used the top 15 by the UFC for a base and inserting guys that aren't ranked where I feel they fit best. And maybe an unpopular idea among the real life-sim guys but using a lot of the retired fighters to help beef up the divisions. Only guys I'm leaving out are Tyson/Rutten/Gracie/Lee.

UFC looks to have been running between 30-45 fights a year so I think I'm going to do two Fight Nights and one PPV every month. Also thinking of implementing a "TUF Finale" show where I'll create two finalists and let the AI fight it out to see which one gets to join the Universe.

Going to have to hold off on starting mine until the AI is patched. I just did my first event and won all 6 fights by KO, 5 in the first round and one in the second.

Thank goodness I'm not seeing that on Hard. I'm 14-18 against the CPU through 32 fights. Of the 32 fights 14 have been decisions, 4 Submissions and 14 KO/TKO's. That's still high for me, but once I get better at subs, then I'm sure KO's will come down.

I'd still like to see sliders someday to help balance the game they way we want it.
