Yes the clinch in this game is slower but the fact is, its dangerous and a real threat. The least threatening aspect in this game is the stand up sadly.
    Lineup:
    PG) Gary Payton
    SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
    SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
    PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
    C) Hakeem Olajuwon

I'v been working the clinch a lot more lately. Doing a lot of dirty boxing, and grinding against the cage.

My denials in the clinch are starting to get pretty good. I'v been having a ton of fun, and some really good success. Denials against the cage are way harder than just clinching in the middle of the cage though. MT against the cage has easy denials, but the other positions are tricky for some reason.

It bothers me you can only finish the fight from MT clinch though. I'll have someone against the cage in single collar, raining uppercuts into their chin, their head glowing bright red, but you can't even rock your opponent from there, let alone KO them.. Kinda of makes no sense.

Two fighters standing in the middle of the octagon just stationary looks totally stupid and not realistic at all. It reminds me of at training when we do grappling drills, not a real fight situation.

Yes, I know you can move your opponent about, but its these dumb little nudges you do.

In UFC 3's clinch it was fast, full of movement and it represented the struggle of a real clinch. Strength ratings mattered and determined whether you were able to push push forward easier or not.

EA UFC's clinch system just looks completely half-designed and is just laughable. It doesn't do a good enough job of representing any sort of clinch I've seen in fights or been in myself.
I played a ton of UD3 but didn't like the clinch in it. It's been too long since I've played it to tell you specifically what I didn't like though. I will say that the ability to move around the cage in the clinch was better in the UD series.

Needs clinch punch health events and it'll run a lot more sim like and the clinch will be more balanced instead of just elbows and knees

I've completed dominated some guys in the clinch and some other high level guys completely neutralized my clinch. If you're struggling with the clinch, most likely you're struggling with the mental part of it. It doesnt take incredible stick skills or reflexes to have a good clinch....its 90% mental.

I'm primarily a striker and even I can appreciate what the devs have done with the clinch. Great job guys.

on drugs? theres more clinch wins in one night than in UFC history. perfect??

its God awful. most unrealistic part of this game hands down.

in fact i got a guy you may want to fight before you commit to that statement.
he will break any transition or defend you attempt in 3 ways and you just have to guess. the tells arent there in this game

                    Re: The Clinch is beautiful

I went from hating the clinch to loving it post patch. After putting some time in the memorize all of the transition denies it makes everything so much easier.

As with most things in the game once you learn how to defend it, its just a matter of making it a twitch action and not getting impatient.

The difference between the trips/throws and single/double leg takedowns is noticeably huge to me now though. Even if I deny a takedown from clinch, get GA, and go for a single leg with a nearly instant time to completion, my opponent denies it because the animation is so drastic compared to something like an inside leg trip.

                      Re: The Clinch is beautiful

Clinch is definitely a very fun part of UFC 2

                      My two wishes for clinch:

                      * Double Under (dominant) needs a bigger denial window. Like, almost double the length

                      * Punches/Elbows in Single Collar need some more pop on them. And if someone eats 5 or 6 uppercuts/elbows in a row...they should be ROCKED

But yes I have a lot of fun w/ clinch

no it's not beautiful, it's stagnant and boring whereas the real clinch is fast paced and hectic. as for the ground game, something's off about it, it seems less responsive.

My biggest issue with the clinch game is there is not a direct and focused way to practice in the practice mode. What happened to a practice mode in which you could select the position in which you start.

I want to pick clinch and the mode resets when you or the opponent escapes or gets knocked out... They need this for every position. It would make practice mode super helpful to improve areas in which each of us wants to improve and/or become an expert

The clinch is not very sim friendly at all. I don't even use the knees usually because it's too OP, I already use the side mount strikes when I deny an opponent's take down lol, so that's enough OP moves to use. But clinch should be a lot more dangerous for the clincher as well to balance it out. Fighters do get hurt after initiating the Muay Thai clinch irl, but not much damage can be applied in the game while one knee to the head can end the fight...not very realistic at all.

It's not beautiful of you are a noob, beginner, or average. It's absolutely terrible. It might be beautiful on a whole nother level for the elite but 95% aren't elite zero of I'm being honest 99.99% aren't elite.

Rocky Balboa's posts about clinch annoyed me. I'm not saying he's average, but I don't loathe clinch.

I started playing new profiles division 1 and 3, I mostly play quick match 6.

Nearly every match in division 1 or 3 quick match the clinch destroys people, they quit, and it's not fair imo.

Since I'm awesome at life I've been friending these dudes, I'm not great but I've been able to improve there game.

100% This seems like an easy patch issue. I would love to practice different clinch and grapple positions over and over again.

Also, I wish the Devs would post a complete strategy guide with all the little tips, even if one had to pay for a guide.

I have gotten much better at clinch work since devoting more time in practice. I've noticed that if you can at least frustrate an opponent at a certain aspect of the game, they will move on to something else.
