Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Did u see the DC vs Anderson match, DC wasnt advancing or posturing up to throw strikes which resulted in a stand up. We need better stand up timers in certain positions like full guard and half guard.Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/im2good4u1

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Yes! I have been asking for faster stand up timers in this game for so long.
There are never any stand ups in UFC 2. 2,000 plus games online on ps4 and only 1 stand up. lolComment

I was rooting for Silva 100%, but totally disagree with Big John standing them up in half guard. That was an entertainment based decision, not a competition based one. The ref should not be saving fighters from a position.Last edited by Evil97; 07-10-2016, 02:55 PM.Comment

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Cormier couldnt get his leg out of andersons legs, which resulted in a stall, Cormier made no attempts to get the leg out to advance or try posture up to land shots, he just baby punched, the stand up was fair.
Imo when you hear the referee say you need to work, the fighter should be looking to advance position or posture up to land a few big shots to reset the stand up timer.Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/im2good4u1

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Silva uses a very defensive stalling half guard. It was a good stand up, big john is no joke.
I had Zhunter hold me in that Silva half guard to see what it was like. Pretty damn impossible to move LOLComment

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Anderson was causing the stall. I understand what you are saying, and this is a very debatable subject which is geared more toward entertainment vs sport. The sport side is that Silva was just surviving and needed the ref to jump in. Hate to say it, but that is what happened. The entertainment side is to stand them up because we want to see Silva's standup. I am 100% about the sport over entertainment. The ref should not be standing fights up. That's just me though.Cormier couldnt get his leg out of andersons legs, which resulted in a stall, Cormier made no attempts to get the leg out to advance or try posture up to land shots, he just baby punched, the stand up was fair.

Yes. Silva was stalling. Bad stand up. It's a touchy subject.Last edited by Evil97; 07-10-2016, 03:45 PM.Comment

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Correct. Silva was causing the lockdown and stalling from the bottom. Cormier was trying to advance his position but he wasn't going to be able to get out of that lockdown because of the length of Anderson's legs, it's just not gonna happen. Cormier was attempting to better his position but couldn't and he was still throwing strikes. No reason for the stand up.ilovejiujitsuComment

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
I dont know he was just throwing baby punches. I see it as Silva nullified cormiers advancement and offence causing the stand up as cormier wasnt working enough. Not everyone can cause stalls for that long like silva was doing.Correct. Silva was causing the lockdown and stalling from the bottom. At the same time Silva doing all that stalling caused the stand up but laying on your back is basically allowing your opponent to have control time on you, Silva could have opened up his legs and looked for sweeps or a get up but at the same time would have allowed cormier to advance and land big shots on him, so it works both ways.Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/im2good4u1

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Cormier was throwing the best strikes he could from there. From that lockdown position the person doesn't have their hips underneath them and cannot generate the same type of force that they could if they were in Full Guard. Anderson was specifically utilizing his length to take advantage of Cormier's short legs (in comparison) to stall the position and hope for a stand up.I dont know he was just throwing baby punches. Cormier weight IN at 205lbs so considering it was an early morning weigh in the day before I have no doubt that DC was 230-235 by fight time. A 230 pound Olympic wrestler against a guy who didn't have a camp and had taken the fight on 48hour notice... There is no sweeping in that scenario.
There is also no getting up. If there wasn't a clock and the ref didn't give the gracious standup, DC would STILL be on top of Silva hitting him with patter pat shots.ilovejiujitsuComment

Yh, thats where we differ, Silva using that lockdown on Cormier stopping him from advancing and creating some significant shots from the top is considered a skillfull move. Not everyone can do a lockdown like that like Silva. However at the same time Silva is stalling he is still giving up control time to Cormier but getting the stand up is the goal.Cormier was throwing the best strikes he could from there. Most fighters will try look for the get up/sweep/submission as soon as possible but they normally do allow themselves get advance on but at the same time could get up quicker not allowing as much control time to the opponent.Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/im2good4u1

Re: Official Live Event Competition Thread
Not everyone goes to the lockdown from their because they don't have the length to pretty much guarantee the person isn't going to get out. If DC had of had longer legs he could have escaped the lockdown and then just cut through Silva's half guard but he didn't, hence Silva stalling.Yh, thats where we differ, Silva using that lockdown on Cormier stopping him from advancing and creating some significant shots from the top is considered a skillfull move. Silva getting a sub or sweep or getting up from underneath DC is video game fodder. Not real life. im well aware of Silva's BJJ pedigree but giving up that much weight to an Olympic wrestler from that position is a no-win scenario.ilovejiujitsuComment
