Romero’s top game shouldn’t be above 86. XVIromero’s statement that he showed great top game against Brunson and Machida is a tad inaccurate... he showed devestating ground and pound, but not control or passing ability.
He can take people down like no one’s business, but he can’t control them. That’s because he comes from a freestyle wrestling background which has almost zero emphasis on ground fighting. Contrast this with folkstyle, which is entirely based around ground control. This is why folkstyle wrestlers tend to do a much better job controlling fighters on the mat in MMA.
Oh, and Romero’s blocking and health stats should all be 99s. I’m dead serious. 99s are reserved for the true best of the best right? Jacare and Demian Maia got some 99s on the ground, Ngannou got a 99 or 100 for power. Yoel Romero should have a 100 for blocking, 100 for leg health, and 99 for body health. Then a 98 for chin health cause he got TKO’d once.

. But 99 for block is absolutely fine and warranted. And yeah, I don't think the likes of Machida are proper litmus tests for whether Romero is good at top control. The guy's a karate specialist. Romero did try to take Weidman down, eventually succeeded and held him down for about 0.5 seconds. I appreciate your post because that's exactly what I was looking for with my initial point: to establish how good exactly is Romero's top game, without his reputation preceding him.
