Can I ask what the ideal usage of Cruz is intended to be? Perhaps you could give me a play by play, or example of a striking sequence that "proper use" of Dominick Cruz would look like? I'm trying to understand how his jab and straight are intended to be incorporated into his game.

I'm disappointed that I'm unable to just flow around and use Cruz; the new movement system is perfect for using him realistically. If I have to use him differently than everyone else on the roster, so be it, I'll take the time to learn it. I just need a little direction here. Because as of now, my understanding is that the competitive meta necessitates advancing jabs and straights.

You do have to use him differently.
I've taken the time to play with him and you have to try and fight like him to be successful which means you can't be that typical brawler.
More a "play it safe", point fight and pick ur opponents apart dominantly,

made a video on how to play with him.

    Hope this helps

Low ranked or not it was still a good instructional video. I am sure some higher level guys can use some of those points and be killers with dom

It matters alot because the reason dom is unusable specifically has to do with when you play high ranked players within a certain meta; and it has little to do with his unique style instead a fundamental flaw in his design.

For example, there’s a way you can use Stephen Thompson like his unique style with straight blasts, stance switch kicks and lead side kick agains a certain playerbase; and then theres a completely different way you have to play when you face guys like Unibot, swiss, preunited or most top 50 players, but Thompson still has a lot of those tools to be competitive in the meta

The problem with Cruz is that his style does poorly in the top metaplay unless you use him as a brawler/abuse his sways+stamina. His lack of a good jab means that vital pressure breaks like the jab lead hook, jab rear hook are much harder to pull off and as a result Dominick Cruz had a relatively easy check and a lot of the things mentioned in the video, while cool and interesting, become useless.

TJ Dillashaw is the best BW to play as right now, he beats cruz on many levels. This could be fixed by tying his jab to a modifier.

Ah I see. Yeah I don't play online so I am not an experts whatsoever. But it sounds like you guys have to deal with a lot of other variables

Yh they just need to tie Cruz sig jab to a modifier. But yes his lack of a true forward moving jab really does hurt him. Sucks cuz I likes using him in ufc 2, but the lack of the forward jab makes him hard to play.

your right, it is harder to fight higher ranked guys.
i made into division 5 with cruz.
players get so frustrated with what im doing to them they start spamming leg kicks like crazy or go full grappling mode
the lack of advancing combos too so its a setback
the highest rank i've reached on rank is 122

I have played vs Kingpin a few times in ranked and he is the hardest to figure out and most unpredictable opponent I have come across in ranked, I have over 1000 fights and have been in the top 100 a few times so I am not a total noob, he uses him very well and I think he would be a challenge for you "top ranked" guys. Great video btw very useful info

But I have had a hard time in UFC 3 because his style is so different from everyone else and I am so used to starting combos with the jab. Will definitely be using these tips.

                            That video is absolutely class.

Although they won't be as unique as Cruz due to his special strikes etc, are there any other bids floating about showing people use fighters corrrectly, as in how they fight in real life?

Fought a pretty good Dillashaw player last night and had him exhausted by the 3rd round using the tactics in the video, before finishing him. Made a lot of mistakes as I clearly still need practice refining the style, but it was a lot of fun frustrating him and keeping him guessing.

Most people have probably seen Martial Minds videos but he uses Aldo and Joanna VERY well, check them out if you haven't.
