    Re: Takedowns

There is the double under takedown counter, judo throw reversal and Kimora/guillotine reversal.

Takedowns are slow as ****, I had all grapplers pre-patch, only way to grt a takedown was clinch or super doubles. Post patch I don’t touch Ut anymore and ranked/quick are stupid. I can use Cruz, Edgar or even Gadelha, and takedowns are the same speed and easily denied. I can shoot after a missed strike, or kick, try to throw a quick combo and shoot. Speed never changes and 90% denied.

Only time you have a real good chance from a takedown from standing(not clinch) is when their back is to the cage and they’re holding high block, the odd whiffed kick, after a rock(super fast takedowns) or a whiffed strike/strike that causes a spin.

The more I play the game, the more I become to hate it. Its currently a kickboxing game, takedowns are death to uppercuts and takedowns are far too slow to be worth trying when a single uppercut can Ko you clean

      Re: Takedowns

Is the double under takedown counter 100% if done properly? I have never seen it before and legit had someone counter every attempt single or double leg with it.

Yeah, think all fighters have it too.

Is that working as designed or a known bug? Trying to figure this game is quite the struggle sometimes.

              Re: Takedowns

Would we all agree that making TDs slightly faster would suffice? Or perhaps, if you shoot a takedown while opponent is throwing/just whiffed on a strike, it's much faster?

Because I agree, takedowns are completely useless in a high level ranked atmosphere. It's single collar tie all day now.

                Re: Takedowns

Before the patch 95% of my takedowns were from the double leg. Now most of my takedowns come from checking a leg kick or avoiding a leg kick and going for a single.

We should also consider the field you're up against. I assume that most people's statements pertain to online play, and regarding online play, most of the people that you face (the fighters themselves, not necessarily the users) will probably be good at grapple defense.

Usually, in a statistical sense, the average fighter will have average grapple defense ability-- however (and this isn't a good or bad thing inherently), when most users online are likely to pick fighters who don't have glaring weaknesses and/or are very skilled in certain areas, which can include grapple defense, the level of grapple defense you face on average will increase, regardless of the user's skill level.

The idea I'm getting at is that maybe, even by standards of realism, maybe some of us might be overestimating how easily we should be able to do this or that, and when it's harder than expected, it gets labeled as an exploit (which is accurate sometimes, but not always, IMO).

As someone who prefers tactical fighting and favors grappling, I think the system what we have now is very satisfactory. I've only played 4 ranked matches, but I've played a ton of unranked.

In ranked, my 2 wins are from ground-and-pound with grapplers, and in unranked, I have a lot of success with the grapple game, so long as I set up my takedowns by either striking prior to shooting, mixing in the clinch, and/or or being more aggressive with shooting when I have grapple advantage (with the opponent against the fence and/or when they throw kicks and miss).

I'd obviously be able to speak more clearly once I play more ranked, but my overall point is that if you pick your spots realistically and go for takedowns at the right times, it becomes a lot easier, in my opinion.
Wow two whole ranked matches! Please teach me more.

It needs to be based off of locomotion and the angle of their body. If they're moving forward or leaning back doubles should be more effective. If they're in a low stance it should be harder.

Takedowns are broken. Sorry I don't understand them at all anymore. Make an UT fighter with 100 takedowns and 3* moves to get the daily objective. And I can't get takedowns on anyone no matter what my grapple advantage. Wtf???

I get a lot of takedowns checking lowkicks and going to a single or going to a single if opponent fails a leg kick.

It is also easy is you check a body kick.

Against a failed head kick is not easy. Opponen can defense with relative easy.

Also you can get a takedown if you check a body punch and you are fast attemping the takedown. Against punches in general is very difficults. It depends of the mistake of the opponent.

I'd love to try that but clinch denials are so easy. I'm not even trying to win fights anymore just understand the mechanics. I'm lost but thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Whiffed head kicks are almost guaranteed takedowns in my experience.

They are if you time them right. It's based on how much of the kick has been done. If the kicker's feet are both planted post-kick, of course it isn't instant. If you hit the sweet spot, it's instant.
