Re: MacGowan's patchable grappling suggestions
Re: MacGowan's patchable grappling suggestions
For the late takedown denial double hooks, would that be double under for the defender? I think this needs to be cleared up because what Bassi mentioned about the animation already being there to easily patch in is an animation that leads to the defender getting it. This allows for an automatic push off which would completely make the change worthless.Comment

A push off from double underhooks isn't automatic; it can be denied. If we, as the ones going for the takedown, are not good enough to deny the push off that's on us.For the late takedown denial double hooks, would that be double under for the defender? It cannot be denied. It is automatic just like full MT, side control and back side control get-ups. Just for clarification, I'm talking about the offensive double under hooks which is what the animation leads to for the defender.Comment

Yeah that’s not good for sure. While I think there are defensive ways to use double underhooks (defending takedowns) I don’t think it should go there since it gives the free push off.
Double underhooks might be a bit dominant for the player getting denied though? What about over under instead for late denial?

I would be fine with over under. I just wanted to point this out in case Bassi was just going to transfer the animation into the late denial input. Hopefully he sees this.Yeah that’s not good for sure. Re: MacGowan's patchable grappling suggestions
Just want to point out that one of my college coach's main takedown setups was to shoot a double leg and then transition to double underhooks when his opponent started sprawling. It is a very real thing in wrestling.
The grappling system could be so much better and needs a revamp, but that is for UFC 4. I have some great ideas (and I'm sure the devs do too), and I will probably make a thread about it in the future after I let my ideas mature a bit.
It is so cool that the devs are discussing this stuff and serious about significantly improving even after release.Comment

Re: MacGowan's patchable grappling suggestions
Id like to see fluid clinch striking without delay in the MT. A way this could be done is to make it timing based rather than holding position based.
For example make escaping the thai clinch to single collar or for both fighters to have plum grip. And then timing the knee/elbow is about throwing it when you gain the potision and the way to defend it is to move to single or double MT clinches.Comment

The MT clinch is pretty weird in-game. IRL fighters are in MT clinch for like a maximum 2 seconds.Id like to see fluid clinch striking without delay in the MT. A way this could be done is to make it timing based rather than holding position based.

Exactly my point, fighters arent in the clinch for longer than two seconds normally in the middle of the cage. MT is used on the cage due to the lack of controlComment

If some of these ideas are actually in the next patch I'm freaking out... and I am not even a grappler.Comment

I'm gonna necro this thread.
We're looking at the end of the patch cycle, and the beginning of the UFC4 dev cycle. I feel it's important that we get a fun looking, fast acting grappling system either patched in late or revamped for UFC4.
I'm especially in favour of number 6. and 7.Comment
